  1. Living in the heart of WV the options for a quality fitting are pretty much nil. I would rather spend a couple of days out of state and get a quality fitting. In the late 90's the club I belonged to had a great Pro and he did an excellent job with a 975 and I think some 918 irons. I got out of the game for some time due to my daughter being born and spending my time running all over the country with soccer. I decided a couple of years ago to get back into it a little bit and my option was Dick's and let's just say I'm not happy with what I have. Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia?

I've read good and bad reviews about Club Champion and they have a newer facility in Columbus.

Let's face it, WV is not really known for it's golf other than the Greenbrier for people that live way above my means.

  2. How close are you to Sleepy Hollow Golf Club, in Hurricane WV?

They have Titleist Thursday event. Perhaps that's a start to setting up a fitting. Also, if you want to go to OH, you can search for clubs that do fittings. Use the "Fitting" link at the top of the page to start your search.

Best of luck. It'd be worth it to go a little further if that means you get the fitting you desire.

    Enjoy,
    Paul
  3. Sleepy is the club I belonged to back in the day and I live two minutes from there.
I doubt there would be time for a non member even though I've known Jimmy since he was the newbie Asst. Pro there.
I've been leaning towards the Club Champion in Columbus but from what I've read they can be hit or miss depending on the location.
I guess I'll just roll the dice.
The worst I can be out is the cost of the fitting.

I think the Pro at Sleepy can make time for a non member.
  5. Called down to Sleepy on Friday to see if he had any TS2's or 3's to check out and was told they weren't available for sale yet.
He just got a box in from Titleist but didn't know what it was because he'd been out of town for a week.
THIS is why I'm asking about places in the surrounding states to get a quality fitting.

The Titleist Thursdays are open to the public, regardless of the status of the club. There will be a Titleist rep at those sessions and the pro at the club may not be the actual fitter. If you elect to not sign up at that location from the fittings section on this web site, I'd recommend checking for other Titleist fitters. You mentioned the 975 and irons, but the TS drivers have been out for a year, only the TS hybrids are just now getting fit at Titleist Thursdays, as well as the change over from AP irons to T-x00 irons. Titleist Thursdays are free fittings, and pro shops have not charged me a fitting fee with a purchase of a driver or a set of irons, but that can vary and worth asking.

Man-O-War Learning Center in Lexington is a Premier Titleist site. Scioto Country Club and The New Albany Country Club are in the Columbus, OH area and are Premier centers. Premier fitters would have to be open to the public. Thursdays and Premier sites are my recommendation. My preference is an outdoor fitting so I can see what the Trackman "sees" in a 15 foot booth. If hitting other than driver, I want to feel turf and not an artificial mat. Mats provide much higher launch and "no fat shots". I only looked up fitting locations on this web site by picking locations that met your criteria out of WV nearby to you.

    Thanks a bunch.
Would they have time to do Driver, FW, and Irons/Wedges?

The premier sites are stocked with more goodies than the average fitting cart - close to what the Titleist rep brings to a Titleist Thursday. They will have fitters certified by Titleist. The fitting is fully negotiated by you, and there may be a difference in the cost of the fitting and if a purchase will subsidize the cost of the fitting.

Drivers/fairways, hybrids/irons, and wedges can take up to an hour for each category. The Premier centers can work with you to schedule as much time as is needed. Titleist Thursdays would require you to sign up for 3-4 30 minute sessions. So a full bag could be from 1.5 to 3 hours at a Premier site. Personally, I couldn't do a full bag in one session, so you would need to make sure you are ready for the workout.

The 30 minute sessions at a Thursday are free but you do need to schedule a block for each club group.

Go to where the Titleist Thursdays are. They are free. I am driving an hour and a half to Pawleys Island from Charleston, SC because I want an on the range fitting. Prefer to see the flight of the ball outside rather than in a cage. I then take the numbers to my friend who is also a fitter in Mt Pleasant and order my clubs from his shop. No worries.

If you log in your zip code it will direct you to the nearest Titleist Thursday. As stated I am driving an hour and a half to get an on course fitting for irons and wedges. I prefer Trackman on turf and this fitter is a seasoned product specialist.

When you set up your fitting there are three sessions you can sign up for:

WHICH TITLEIST CLUBS WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE FIT FOR? *

    Driver/Fairway
    Hybrid/Iron
    Vokey Wedges

Each session runs "45 minutes". They give you adequate time for a good fitting.

  11. I hate to keep asking you guys questions but like I said earlier, I've been away from the game for awhile and things have changed big time.
    Especially in the fitting world.
I went to the Titleist Thursday tab and put in my zip code.
It pulled up my local club (Sleepy Hollow) but it was on a Saturday Sept. 7 and not a Thursday.
I went ahead and set it up and got a confirmation for that day from 12:00pm - 4:00 pm.

Is this not the free fitting and if it is do you guys "tip" these fitters?

My event is with John Prengaman.

Thanks, and hopefully I can stop bothering you guys after this.

I've actually not been to a TT on a Thursday. The nearest events have been 50+ miles from me, but 2 local clubs brought in the pro and Titleist rep for one-off specials. Assuming the event is Titleist-sponsored and the rep is there, I wouldn't assume a tip would be expected. If you show your gratitude by purchasing some or all of what you are fitted for, ...that is an excellent tip. And the point of the fitting. Good deal for you - they will do the best to fit you and good deal for Titleist, you will be a satisfied customer. Going into a box retailer and picking something on display will have a high probability you will blame Titleist when it doesn't meet your expectations and not the sales-oriented staff at the store that swore what they had in inventory is what you need.
  13. Well, I got an email from the Pro at Sleepy Hollow.
Since the fitting day is so late in the season they don't have many people excited about it so they are canceling it.
I'm not surprised in the least and something will probably come up in the Spring so they won't be able to do it then either.

Did my iron fitting today at a Titleist Thursday event. Had to drive an hour and fifteen minutes, but worth it. Asked the fitter to get me better accuracy and more distance. That seems like a lot to ask, but, Billy Forbes is the best. I have been hit stiff shafts in my previous irons 716 AP1s and doing fairly well with them, but did not feel that I was getting the maximum out of them. At the ripe old age of 73, the max I could get from my 7 iron was around 145 to 150. Trackman does not lie, after trying numerous brands of steel and graphite shafts we settled on the True Temper AMT red R300. Weight: 95g - 105g. I purchased eight clubs, W53* - 5 iron, T300s. These shaft weights are graduated from wedges to longer clubs. Club head speed 73 mph, ball speed 3000+ and smash factor 4.0. My fitter said these are pretty good numbers. I was more concerned that we were able to improve my distance range to 148 - 160 yards with ease, and the accuracy was all over the flag. Did not go with another wedge because all of my clubs are now regular shafts and the new wedges will be 95g, having more weight in the heads. I already have a SM7 58.12* D and it works very well, out of the sand, around the green and in the fairway. It is dialed in. Labor day week, D day........

Chuck Z you are correct Bill Forbes is a great individual and fitter. I was at Steve Dresser academy for a fitting with Bill at 10 am on August 22, 2019. I have been to see Bill several times and I am always satisfied when I leave. I had purchased a TS2 driver and fairway wood back in January of this year. Yesterday I purchased TS100 irons 4- AW, 2 new vokey wedges and a TS2 Hybrid. I was extremely pleased with Bill's knowledge and time spent getting the right shafts , length, lofts and lie that really fitted me. I trust Bill totally and if you are in South Carolina are close by, I recommend you drive down to see him, you want be sorry. I am very excited with my purchases and can't wait for them to be shipped.

I was at Pawleys Island on Wedenesday, August 22, for a fitting with Bill Forbes at 10 am. Bill is a very knowledgeable fitter and a great guy. I went to see Bill in January of this year for a fitting on the new TS driver and Fairway wood. I purchased a TS2 driver 8.5 and a 16.5 TS2 fairway wood. Bill did a outstanding job fitting me for both clubs and I have been pleased as punch. So Wednesday I returned for a iorn fitting and again I cannot stress enough Bill's ability to get you fitted properly. I purchased a set of T100 irons 4- AW, 2 new vokey wedges and a new TS2 hybrid. After Bill fitting me properly and seeing the tracman numbers, I am anxiously waiting for the clubs to be shipped. If you live around South Carolina and want to be properly fitted, go see Bill at the Steve Dresser golf academy. You want be disappointed!
