  1. Gonna buy a TSi2 driver and thinking of shafts. Aldilla or Fujikura 40g R flex. Hit both at demo day. Is Fujikura old technology?

You should try a few different shafts if you get the chance, but Fujikura is not old technology. More like cutting edge technology. From amateurs to the pros they are always at the top of the list for favored shafts.

I have Fujikura 40 shafts in my TS1 driver, 5 wood and 7 wood. I am 70 years old and they they perform extremely well for us old guys

Fujikura is very good technology. I am in the same boat as you age wise and I went with the Graphite Design AD- DI5 Shaft in both my TSi3 driver and TSi2 3 woods.

The best thing to do is get fit. I would get fit by more than one person if possible. A Titleist fitter would be the best.

Am 74+. My shafts are "Fujikura Tour Speeders" and stiff shafts. Was fitted by a Titleist certified fitter and the Trackman showed them to be the best for me.

    917D2 11.75* Pro TS 74
    917F2 15.75* Motore VC 6.1 TS
    816H1 18.0* Motore HB 8.8 TS
    816H1 22.0 Motore HB TS

Have not moved up, yet, because they are still providing the best numbers. Plan on checking out the TSIs this year. My fitter said I have been away from the game to long and I need more time before getting fitted.

Love the accuracy, distance and can always depend on them. When I go for a fitting they will be number on on my list to try in the new heads. They have been very good to me.

I have to ask.....have you been properly fit for your new driver? That is really the only way to tell what shaft is best and for that matter which driver head is going to work best for you.

I know players at 65 who need the lighter head of the TSi1 with a very light, softer flex shaft. I am also 65. I use a TSi2 with a Graphite Design DI-6, hard stepped in S Flex.

Getting properly fit is a must!

I'm 65 as well. Ugh. Hate to admit it. I was fit into the Tensei Blue Stiff in my TS2 driver at a Titleist Thursdays, just like I was the Diamana Blue Stiff before it in my old 917D2 and 915D2. I have many other shafts I plug in and out of my TS2, including an Aldila Rogue Black R flex and an EvenFlow Blue 5.5 flex. I'm a tinkerer. I like to try other shafts from time to time after making a small swing change here or there, or when my driver swing gets a bit stale, just to satisfy my curiosity. However the Tensei Blue 55 Stiff is the one that always proves to be the longest and most accurate at the end of the day. So when I play a round that "counts," that's the shaft I use.

I am really curious about the GD DI-5 and 6 and the new Fujikura Vista Pro 65. Fujikura makes some great shafts. Never been dissatisfied with any of theirs that I've tried in various drivers over the last 10 or 12 years. Definitely not old technology. Cutting edge IMO. Just look at the Fuji Ventus and how many of those are on Tour right now. One of the top shafts out there.

Doug, you've tried a bunch of shafts. Maybe you can answer this question for me.I put it out there a couple months ago, but got no replies.

My driver is a 910D3 with a Project X 7C3 stiff 73 gram shaft, with very low torque. At Christmas my son got the new Ti3-D3 with the stock HZDROUS RDX stiff shaft (he was on a monitor and the fitter said his original Diamana shaft fit him best). That said I was the recipient of his old head , a 913-D3, with the new HZRDOUS shaft.

At 62 grams and a higher torque value, I'm guessing this shaft, being a little lighter with higher torque, might be a little more responsive for a 64 year old "geezer".In case you're wondering, I can still move it, averaging 16 quotas in our 9 hole league matches last season.

    Your thoughts?

I'm sorry I can't give you any direct experience feedback, but your theory makes some sense. I'm no expert, though. Just a tinkerer. Frankly, from what I have gleaned in my shaft research, I am a little afraid of the HZRDUS. I have what I would call a smooth tempo and transition. I think of the HZRDUS as more of an aggressive swinger's shaft. Even so, I am still curious and was actually thinking about trying a HZRDUS Yellow version for fun. In the meantime, I have since started thinking about the new Fuji Vista Pro (which is relatively inexpensive) and the GD DI 5 or 6, so the HZRDUS has been bumped down a couple notches on my potential demo list.

You're not an old geezer just yet. Just wait 'til you get to be my age! (65. LOL.)

Thanks for responding Doug. Your comment about your smooth tempo and transition and how it relates to your perception of the HZRDUS line helps, because I'm the opposite.I'm a fast swinger with active hands.I load very late in the downswing keeping the 90 degree angle between shaft and my left forearm for a long time.I tend to go at it hard at impact.

Our season hasn't started up here yet. It's looking like April 1 or so for me,barring any snowstorms. That said I'll keep you posted as to my results trying the new shaft.

    Thanks again.
