GT/GTS vs TS2

Just getting back into the game after 3 years off with a bad hip. My new hip and I were curious as too the gains to be found in the gt lines of drivers over my current gamer a TS2 10.5 degree. Long time Titleist fan came to the TS2 from a TM SLDR. Got tired of watching knuckleballs with no spin fall from the sky with my SLDR. The TS2 definitely gave me a bump in spin I was looking for. Just curious what else is out there and if any of you have made the jump from the TS line to the GT line and what your experience has been.

Titleist recommends fitting driver to ball, and ball to irons/wedges. A GT/GTS off the rack may not work as well as a TS fit to you.

The TS has been out for 6 years. Forgiveness has been improved and sweet spot has been enhanced. Shafts have been improved over time. On top of that your swing may have changed between the hip surgery and the 3 year layoff. It would be worth finding a good fitter for a checkup and possible replacement.

The technology is so much better now. You still need to get fit to fine tune the offerings to match your specific swing. There is a reason so many of the tour players at last week’s PGA were using GT and GTS models.

Finally goty T350s

Took a little bit to upgrade to the 25's from the 23's but finally got mine. Got fit in Aug. First round with them was just like the fitting. So good.

I swapped out my T250 5i for a T350 5i with the oil can finish. Looks great but was wondering why the T350 has this black plug in the toe. It’s not in the T250 or any other T350s I’ve seen (but didn’t really look for one), nor is anything listed on the Titleist site regarding this. As a good player with the ability to find the center of the club face consistently (enough), I wouldn't rule out simply your preference for a thin soled, low bounce club head. The TSeries has allowed Titleist to be innovative in finding forgiveness for players that need/want it - mostly because they aren't consistent enough OR prefer a wider, higher bounce club head and feel. Jordan plays T100's and Justin plays his prototype MBs for a specific reason = preference.

BTW - I also don't subscribe to the "your not good enough to play blades" comment. It's about preference, feel and fun. We don't get paid to play, so if we want to chase those awesome flushed feeling shots with an MB - more power to us. Enjoy the journey!

An interesting experiment 620MB vs T Series

I stepped away from the game for around 8 years. I have been back now for about 6 months. I got fitted for a blended set of T series irons PW-7 T100, 6 T150 and T250 3-5. What I have discovered is the T100's are a bit longer than my traditional yardages. (I have played 30 plus years) and the T250's are stupid long at times for example I hit the 4 iron 230 yards on a layup hole, normal swing didn't try to "go after it". That may sound great but my normal 4 iron is in the 210-215 range. Distance control is a big concern. A couple of data points as related to swing speed I typically have a smash factor close to or at 1.5 with the driver with ball speed usually in the mid to high 150's to low 160's. Now for the fun part. My son games 620 MB's with X100 shafts. I had a extensive range session hitting his irons and wow. The feel was amazing, the ball flight was a nice mid flight trajectory and the confidence they inspired in me felt like the good old days. (I previously played miz blades) So I ordered a used set and I'm giving this experiment a proper go to see if at 54 will this work for me. I know from playing blades the drawbacks but also know the consistency in feel and distance control. So the plan is to game these and if I love them, trade the T series for a set of 620 CB's as a back up set or even go with a blended set of MB/CB's. I also may consider going full T100's if this experiment fails. Before I quit my handicap was a 2.

This is not going to be a popular position with many golfers or golf companies.

45 years ago I began playing golf with blade irons. Over those 45 years, in an effort to improve my scores, I have tried dozens of cavity back, tungsten-assisted, hollow body, goo-filled, steel shafted, graphite shafted, loft-jacked, and custom fitted iron sets.

None of those sets have given me as much satisfaction on the golf course as muscle back, blade irons. They give you what you put into them in terms of a golf swing. They aren’t as “forgiving” as other irons, nor as long generally, but I know absolutely that my bad shots are MY fault and my good shots are the result of MY swing, NOT the result of some creative iron designer or skilled engineer sitting behind a computer with CAD running on it to “improve” my game.

For me, that thought is worth everything on the golf course.

I am nearly 77 years old and playing Titleist 620 MB irons because I want to know it is MY skill, or lack of it, that results in my golf score.

The official release date is 6/11. There is an online custom catalog typically updated after new shafts are approved, but it also includes the stock numbers. It moves around the website, but I usually find it by trying to customize a club and finding a link there.
I have had to work with pro shops for an item. Large retailers generally don’t bother to order items not on their shelf I expect the weight kit options won’t appear before 6/11 at the earliest.

GT1 Performance

I was fitted for a GT1 driver and couldn’t be more pleased. I’m a senior golfer and have picked up distance and accuracy. I recently purchased a GT1 fairway 3 wood and have had the same results. Thanks Titleist!

I have been playing the GT1 driver for about 6 months now and have been very pleased. Currently play a TSR1 18* fairway that I hit fairly well. Have not pulled the trigger on a GT1 and am currently considering waiting until the GTS1s are released next year. I hear they will be worth the wait. Anyone have an opinion of how the fairways compare GT vs. GTS in technology? What insight can we get from the GTS2 and is that likely comparable to the GTS1?

Prices are on the website, and June 11th is the official release day. You may get it earlier if you do an early fitting, but only Drivers and Fairways, the hybrid/rescue GTS clubs won't be out until next year (along with GTS1).

If you find a way to purchase, please let me know - as I’m sure I’ll want to tinker with my swingweight. I was hoping that Titleist would stay with the same slider/weights as the GT, but that didn’t happen. With the GT, the only way to purchase for the first 6 months after the driver was released was to go through a fitter with access to their internal catalogue. For those of us living in the country well away from any fitters, it’s lead tape time until the online vendors start selling them.

Went with the Fuji Axioms in 105S with my T-150s, tried the MMT 105's however the fuji's just felt better, previous shaft Project X LZ 6.0. As far as launch/spin for me the axioms launched a little higher with a touch more spin, dispersion was tighter with the Axioms. Never going back to steel shaft, especially since Fuji continues to add more weight options for the axiom.

Wanting to order some new Irons. My last set fit were T100’s 5-PW T200 4 iron. Project X 6.5 2 degree upright. Fitted at the Belfry.

I really want to try graphite shafts however no where near me has the option to try them in irons. I find the PX ever so slightly boardy.

I’m looking at the MMT Tx Graphite design Tour ad iron shafts Tensei Av white AM(2) KBS TGI

Does anyone have some relevant experience ?

All three newly released GTS drivers are 460cc. Apparently there is a straight progression and less overlap. Lowest to Highest spin.

GTS4 weight forward, 4 weight back then GTS3 weight forward, 3 weight back then GTS2 weight forward 2 weight back.

I hit the GTS2 yesterday, only for a short time not a proper fitting. Weight back so in theory the highest spinning and with matching loft and sleeve to my GT2 was significantly lower spinning. 1600 GTS2 11 degrees weight back B2 opposed to 2300 same configuration GT2 11 degrees B2. I also hit the GTS 7FW with a 5 FW shaft to get the length I play and the launch was very low. I was the first person to hit them, wrappers off so the fitter could not tell if this was player specific or not. This was a local fitter, I'm going for a Titleist fitting next week interested if the results with more time, adjustment, shafts will be different. Did pick up 2.5/3 mph ball speed but less carry.

The 250+ is not just a lighter weight 250. For one, the lofts are different. You can specify a lighter SW in the 250 oil can, but it still won’t be a 250+ substitute.

U505 2-iron with True Temper DGTI X100 shaft is what im currently playing. The U505 kicked out my TSR3 19-degree hybrid (for now). I've only hit it 3 times in league play but it is very easy to hit for me. Carry distance is right at 240. The ball flight is strong and even my toe strike stayed on line. You're likely gonna want to go get fit to figure out which club is best for you. Let us know what you end up with.
