Nice to spend time in Florida after the PGA Show, getting in some putting practice!

This is kinda neat! Tees are set up to only allow a perfect putt to fall into the hole...gotta be struck pure!

NOW....Notice the tees past the hole, especially the White Tee? The tees were placed 12" past the hole, causing me to focus solely on rolling the ball to the tees. If done correctly, the ball simply "falls" into the hole, like a trap door!

After 30 minutes or so, I truly had the understanding of looking at the block of tees (focusing on the White Tee), and simply rolling the ball to the tees. It was really cool to watch the balls fall into the hole...again...like a trap door!

Good putters simply "roll the ball, with the hole getting in the way!" That's what I experienced in the warm, sunny, South Florida sunshine!

    Fun stuff!

  2. Excellent drill, with the bonus visual and good weather too boot! Would you consider this appropriate for certain kinds of putts (e.g., flat, within 5 feet) versus others (e.g., lag)? For example, faced with a slippery sidewinder, I'm thinking about the ball just barely dying in the hole. This seems like good practice for short and/or controlled uphill and downhill scenarios.

    HK:

    Thanks for the comments.

For breaking putts, I would simply place one tee directly in front to the hole. With this setup, the ball, in order to fall in the trap door, would need to roll on the outside of the tee (right side of tee, for right-to-left putts....left side of tee, for left-to-right putts).

Hope the written words properly explain the visual concept of working on breaking putts!

ALWAYS REMEMBER...the goal is NOT to make putts, but simply to ROLL the ball and allow it to fall into the trap door!
  4. Looking forward to giving this a try!

    nice drill.
  6. If the snow ever melts here, this would seem to be a good drill...
Particularly like that second post for the sliding putt - Will certainly give that a whirl.

Tried this drill yesterday... it sure does keep you focused. Great cure for "lagging" short puts. Ha

Thanks for another good tip Skip. As soon as the North thaws I'll give it a try for sure. Should be a rare 60 degrees tomorrow so I may get out for some practice. I coached a few bling golfers (Blind Golfers Association) years back with putting and judging distance by feel. They would adjust distance by feel drills at 5,10, 15 and 20 feet. Once I set the putter on the correct line, I gave them the distance. I made a hanging chime set for a target.

    Always enjoy good putting tips.
