Has anyone else ever felt like their swing was pretty solid, only to video it and then absolutely hate what they’re watching? I’m not really trying to change anything after watching it because I’m hitting the ball really well right now. Still not scoring like I want to but that’s all because of the flat stick and I being at odds. I recently played with some old friends that I hadn’t seen / played with in a decade. They were complementing my swing and ball striking so I guess it works but man, watching it for myself was not what I expected. Looked like I was all arms and nothing else.

happens to me too, I hate the site of a camera on myself while hitting a golf ball! Probably the old perception vs. reality thing going on for people like us. What we picture in our minds eye may no truly be what is happening as we take a whack at the ball. In the end the only thing that matter is the flight of the ball and there are some truly "unique" swings that have won championships and millions of dollars out there. Swing your swing!

That’s what I plan to keep doing but man, it was hard to watch.

If I am getting the results I want I don't care how it looks haha unless of course I am trying to work on something. I'm sure looking at yourself on video we are all bound to nit pic the smallest things after all we are all our own biggest critics.

I use video recording of my swing and try to refine it, as my attempt to bring my backswing more on plane.

I think video is great and theres a lot of great teachers and players who use it. It can be an amazing point of reference. But in the end, ball flight is all that matters! Its tough to not be critical of yourself!!
  7. Just the opposite for me. I always feel like my swing is a mess but the result is not bad and the people I play with say it looks good. Go figure.
  8. I just took a video of myself and i never thought i had a "stall" in my swing but the camera doesn't lie. Its pretty smooth until I'm just about to hit the ball and my hips completely stop from turning out and my wrists aty impact look really bad....then my body turn out and it looks smooth again..what gives?? I hate seeing myself swing

I agree, a video of my swing looks like someone else hitting in a costume of me. But I use it because I have 2 faults in my downswing and video has helped me feel it now when in the past I could only see it on video. Also I can see ball position better on video vs at address which I used to struggle with at times with my fairway & hybrids.

I get told I have a great iron swing, everyone stays quiet about my driver swing. Lol

Recording your golf swing is a BIG reality check. What you think and what is reality is a big difference. I record my swing from time to time to figure out where the club position is and check the downswing. It re-focuses me on my major faults.

You could have the ugliest swing in the world and your face square at impact and hit the ball on the center of the face.

You could have the most beautiful swing in the world and hit the ball fat.

Video does show you what you do, but it's a lot of work making a swing look pretty and it still doesn't mean you'll play better. I've worked hard on my swing from video, and I am playing a lot better than I used to, but I put in a ton of time and still have plenty to go before I'm satisfied.

    Swing your own swing.

B.A. from Los Gatos is spot on; as golfers, we each have our own unique swing. There isn't one "right way" to swing a club. Some of us come in steep, others shallow etc. As good as Hogan's book (The 5 Fundamentals of Golf) is,in my opinion, it was written for a golfer with a shallow swing with an anti-hook bias.Personally Derek C, my swing is pretty ugly, except for positions in the swing that matter most, namely starting position, impact and finish.I had a friend who is a professional tape me for a few holes, and after looking at the results,I commented how inside and "loopy" my swing was. He directed me to some images just before and after impact. Yes I do come in steep he said, but I maintain the 90 degree angle between shaft and forearm for a long time, and sure enough, at impact I'm back on plane. He also reminded me that my ball striking was really solid, with no wasted motion at impact.
Regardless how it looks, if you're hitting it pure, don't change a thing.

I think Mike M nailed it, "starting position, impact and finish." If you don't believe this go check out the swings of Jim Furyk and Matthew Wolff and then look at Adam Scott's swing all which can be found on You Tube.
  14. My golf game is a mess. I tried a lot of things grip, stance and clubs and it just not working. I'm short off the tee compare with the guys I play with. The only thing I do half way decent is chipping and putting. Any suggestions how to get out of this RUT?
  15. Get back to the Basics,Stance, alignment, and ball position. You also can use a mirror to check your swing.
  16. I'm just all about trying to get more power out of my swing. I could care less about what it looks like but I do video it all the time to see if I can tell where I'm going wrong.

The only thing that matters is the score on the card. If it works it works. Look at Jim Furyk. Not fundamental at all but it works with him. Charles Barkley on the other hand..... Not so much :)
