  1. I just started golfing this summer, and I have worked hard and progressed to around a 15 handicap already! As the fall is approaching I am concerned about how I might be able to play during the winter when it is cold out, any tips? Thanks!

There may be either an indoor range or a place of business with golf simulators that offer you the opportunity to play during the cold winter months.

Typically here in Michigan course close mid November and don't reopen until April, so those are the options we have available here.

Don't need to practice all the clubs in your bag to keep your swing and tempo intact, short and mid irons can do that while practicing.
  3. Once our course closes for winter I go to one of our simulator places here. Generally work on maintaining the tempo and my swing. Usually I go once a week for an hour and it keeps the swing intact and the body moving like it should.
  4. I always look for simulator leagues or just try to go to them atleast twice a week. Usually try for a trackman simulator or something that is close to. Also close to me is multiple heated ranges with trsckman capabilities.

It really depends on where you live, whether the courses will be open and your cold tolerance. Here in Ohio we can usually get to play until Nov or Dec. Start again in March. I have a couple places close to me that will open any time it's decent out. So if we have a mild winter I can play all year. Last year no outside golf for 2-3 months but other years I've played at least a couple times a month all winter long.
I also will do Sim golf in the garage.

I don't mind playing in winter, even in cold or wet weather. On top of that, there are usually very few people on the course, which gives me the opportunity to play two or three balls from the same spot if I want to, without slowing down the pace of play since there's rarely anyone behind me. I also often use the balls I've found throughout the year.

    1. Layers... and the best thing to wear for windy days is rain gear.

    2. The ball doesn't travel as far in cooler temps.

    3. greens are typically slower in the winter.

Don't make yourself miserable on the course just to play. A lot of places have indoor simulators or heated driving ranges so that you can keep swinging and stay semi-sharp. Golf is hard enough, just have fun.
  9. I agree with layering always easier to take a layer off than be cold. We are spoiled here in New Mexico the winters are mild and most courses are open year round. We play on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s but even a net in the backyard helps. Balls get cold and hard I always keep a couple in my pocket to help.

Love the cooler weather and it is welcome here in the lowcountry of S Carolina, after living thru June thru September where the heat index normally runs in the triple index numbers. We have mild winters, usually, and just lightly layer up and play the year round in my FootJoy apparel. Our winter normally lasts about three to four weeks, if we have a bad winter. Every now and then we see a little snow for a day and it is quickly gone. Sometimes we even wear shorts at Christmas. Winter is our shortest season and summer out longest. We do not have normal four seasons, but do have hurricanes and earthquakes. Like is a beach and only five minutes away. Hakuna matata.

I have the opposite problem. When the “snowbirds” show back up here in the Phoenix area it’s almost impossible to get tee times. Plenty of range work time.
