My biggest concern in refinishing a Scotty would be the face. I don't believe anyone could duplicate the milling on the face. If you screw up the face, then you now own a $400.00 + piece of junk. I don't have a woody for Scotty, I use a Super Stroke grip, I use a generic magnetic headcover and am not worried about being struck by a lightning bolt, thrown by Scotty Cameron. I have used Golfworks for over 30 years for club refinishing and have never been disappointed. However, for this particular golf club, I would use Scotty. Just my opinion and preference.

Love golf, play as much as my wife and work will allow, but some golf dudes on these threads are so lame. I think I'll take my Newport 3rd party almost entirely based on how much of a woody some of you have for "Scotty". First things first when I buy a new putter from the guy that is owned by Titleist, throw his headcover in the garbage, and cut his grip off.

The Putter Lounge and BOS (Scotty's old refinishing partner) are reputable. Did you buy the knock-off grip and send its in with putter or did you buy it through them?

I completely disagree! IF you go to a third party vendor then you can never have your putter authenticated for resale or valuation purposes. If that is not important to you then it doesn't matter...even with plenty of research your still gambling a foreign (non-scotty) place will do it correct. At least by giving to the Custom Shop for a refurb you have a guarantee among other things it will be done right!

It’s a risk going to a 3rd party though. I found that out the hard way. Took my redX2 in to have it blued and needed a new grip as well to a place that was recommended and ratings were good but a low number of them. Well when I went to pick it up they had smoothed the face insert which I told them not to touch and inserted the screws into the wrong places. I was not happy. When I got home I took the screws out and put them in the correct places so that the heads weren’t sticking out from the sole Of the club anymore. I send my two black 009s about every 18 months to BOS and the ability to drop them off and talk to the staff is very insightful. Id use SC, but it takes too long and I hate waiting. And, if there's an issue, I'm a short drive to square it away and I know getting in touch with BOS' customer service will be a cinch!

With how the custom shop prices refinishes now, it is like they are trying not to do them. Who can blame them as the end goal is to sell putters. Cameron didn't do the finish on many of the older models anyway as BOS did them and is still a relatively cheap refinish option. Not a lot of value in using Cameron unless it is a tour putter then you would rarely want to refinish one anyway.

I sent a brand new special select to the custom shop to have just a sight dot put on it when it came back there were a few scratches on the bottom wasn't to happy about it

I agree with this. I sent a golo in a couple years ago for a shaft, grip and new weights. Well it came back with scratches on leather grip, marks on bottom of putter and weights! I contacted them and sent back in for new grips and weights. They couldn't do anything about the marks on sole of aluminum insert though because they "don't" refinish that. I have sold that putter since then but have another golo I am thinking of sending in but kind of concerned about it! Good thing the weights aren't in stock yet so no decision to be made yet. With that being said I had a circa 62 refinished there probably been 6-7 years ago now and it came back flawlessly just got a new finish and boy oh boy still holding up to this day!

Don't be afraid of 3rd parties.

This is going to be unpopular... but the SC Custom shop has done a less than acceptable job on my last two putters. Furthering my dissatisfaction, when they took the putter back to fix the issues, IMO they did a very sloppy job. One mistake is ok, but it shouldn't happen the second time around. If you're paying top dollar, you should get top dollar service.

Just sent my gamer to California for a custom update.

Excited about it and looking forward to getting it back from Cameron.

I researched and felt that going with the Custom Shop was the best route since that putter is what usually makes my scores!!

Ive use Putter Lounge with no problems at all.. But, then I remembered BOS (black oxide service) is five miles from my house and Scotty Cameron used them as his primary service in the beginning! BOS gets my business because they're close and their turnaround is soo much faster (putter lounge is as well)!

I had my putter restored by the Putter Lounge and thought they did excellent work. I bought it from someone specifically with the purpose of getting it restored. I game a Futura 5.5M, but wanted to have a more classic Studio Design 1.5 to putt with in my basement from time to time. I really like how it came out. Unfortunately SC doesn't offer the Oil Can finish anymore. So if that's something you have/want, you will need to go elsewhere.

If you are a collector, I agree totally with Chris. Get the restoration done by the master himself. If I were buying a restored Scotty I would not purchase a restored putter done by someone other than him. That does not make it ORIGINAL. With respect to those restorers out there and their quality work. Just an opinion to the value of Scotty Cameron putters.

If the clubs are restored by SC then you would not need to question the feel of the putter, it would restored in it's original state, unless you have changed the lie, loft, weights, grips, etc.

Agree about NorCal Putters, they produce some real pieces of art. Wonder if any of the finishes change the feel of the putter...wouldn't think so, but interested in learning about anyone's experience.

I believe they are one of the best aftermarket refinishes of putters in the USA!!!
I'm currently looking for an old and rusty Scotty to send off for refinishing.

In my opinion, if it is a common mass produced putter (Select newport etc) there is no harm. Especially if you plan on keeping the putter instead of swapping out or selling to move on.

I sent mine in and did not have much done (paintfill, stamping on face, grip) and it was 250 bucks, plus I was without my putter for 6 weeks.

In the end, it is your putter. Scotty Cameron is not going to strike you down with a lightning bolt from the Studio mountain on which he resides.

It's your putter. I see alot of excellent places with very good work. On the other hand if you putting up on a rack as a collector's item then you would want factory work to have maximum value. I use my clubs and do not go much for collectors items.

Thanks again guys for all the feedback.
I still haven’t sent in for restoration, but hopefully will soon. May hold off until after 2019 season, and WILL be sending to the Custom Shop.

Already have been looking for under-the-weather Scottys to pickup and send in and brought back to original.

Really would like to start a SC collection, and start with older models.
