The new Phantom 5.2 and 7.2 have the plumber neck style if that is what your eyes like. They also have less toe hang than Newport style blade putters, which might help your tendency to miss left. I have an older 6s but am not happy with the feel (too soft for lag putt feel, probably due to the aluminum face/sole plate). I custom ordered a 5 a year or more ago, which has the same style as my Studio Select 2.7 but not the aluminum face. It works well, but somehow I seem to make more putts with the 2.7, which was rescued from a used putter bin!

I have a Newport 2+ that's 33" and I was missing everything left. I also have a Phantom 9.5 that's 34". I seem to putt better with the Phantom and I think it's a combo of having the right length and the mallet head. I don't see the Phantom leaving the bag anytime soon. Bottom line make sure the specs are right for you.

I’ve be n playing my Scotty Studio Style for over 18years. It’s never let me down and is in new condition. I cannot see changing but if I did it would be a Phantom 5.2 or 7.2.

I've got 3 Scottys; 2 mallets (GoLo center shaft and a heel shaft J.A.T prototype )and a blade (Newport 2 center shaft prototype).The blade is slightly less forgiving, especially long range.The GoLo is my gamer ;I like the look of the center shaft at address,but occasionally I'll go back to the blade, particularly if I'm playing a course with fast greens.

Before you do anything, try moving the ball back a bit. I’ ll pull putts if the ball is too far forward regardless of what putter I’m using.

As stated by several contributors, the key is to be fitted. I think you will find that mallet is more forgiving. The key is to have confidence in whatever putter you have in your hand. Or you can be like me, and change putters when the one you have doesn't seem to be working. Full disclosure, I consider myself a reasonably good putter and average between 28-30 putts per round. I have a couple Scottys , and if I feel one is not working, I will try something else. I also spend an awful lot of time on the practice green. I am not a long hitter, so I need to be good putter.

I want to share that a S.A.M. putting lab experience was really helpful for me. I had a tendency to pull 3' putts and miss the entire hole, which is not good for the psyche! The result from the lab and golf professional showed me that, while my setup was well-aligned, my forward press would often close the face a few degrees, thus I had the putter facing left at impact. A bit of practice, a slight set up change, and no more misses. I also found the Pelz 'Putting Tutor' to be quite valuable after I got through the phase of having to fetch the ball bearing to replace before my next stroke!

Recently, I wanted to have the professional evaluate me as I had started to miss right, and he showed me a bit of what was happening. I have some slightly different adjustments to make, but they are minor compared to correcting the forward press (that took some time, believe it or not!).

Agree with other posts about getting fitted. As for me, I have gone back and forth between a Phantom and Squareback. Currently, my weapon of choice is the Phantom 11.5. I really like the alignment tools on the putter. Last year, was the Super Select Squareback 2. I like both of them better than a straight blade. The most important thing is that you feel confident when the putter is in your hand, so again, get fitted.

I agree with Chris. Consider the new Phantom line. I also suggest getting a putter fitting. That will look at loft and lie which could assist with the stroke.

Same with me. I’m lefty and I’m having trouble with distance putts. I just ordered the 7.5 and like you I wanted the 5.5 but they don’t have that option. I would like to get more feedback from guys that own the 7.5.

I plan on getting a putter fitting in the near future. I was fit a couple of years ago and ended up with a different brand which did not stay in the bag very long. Big problem I have is pulling putts. The Phantom 5s is on my radar and hope to try it out soon.

Also, I like the thicker topline on the older NP2 putter more. Gives me more control.

Changing grips often works wonders. I used a Newport 2 putter for many years. I have problems with short putts with the Phantom 5 and have gone back to using my NP2. Changing to an SS pistol gt1 grip or the new sc custom shop grip works very well for me.

You might want to consider a putter fitting. Your natural stroke may be suited to a certain type of putter.

I added a 2024 Phantom 9.5 to my lineup. My gamer is a 2019 Laguna - there is nothing wring with the Laguna but when I tried the 9.5 it just felt a little better. I switch between the two now and then....The mallet definitely felt a little more forgiving...

I love my Newport 2. Admittedly, it is not for everyone. Especially if you were not fitted properly. But I agree with some of the other responses in this post, an issue with the 'pulls' may require fine tuning and the help of a PGA pro.

I was also using my special select newport, super select newport 2 going back and forth over the year’s depending on which one was behaving until I picked up the more forgiving super select newport 2+ which I didn’t think I would find any better? I was fitted into the Newport 2 and like the putter a lot but the results have not been the best. I have been working with someone on my alignment but i think i need a little more forgiveness. I'm a lefty and wanted a 5.5 but Scotty removed the left hand option so I've been considering the 7.5 as an alternative.

I just switched to the Del Mar and I can’t explain it but just the way it sits at address has vastly increased my confidence on putts. I love the look of a blade and the weight of a mallet so this was a perfect balance for me. I would definitely recommend giving the Del Mar a try.

I just switched from a Newport to the phantom 5. I love the 3 dot alignment. On the SAM I have a slight arc, but the phantom 5 performance was unmatched even though its face balanced and designed for more straight arc. My miss is in the heel and through 3 rounds this week and a few hours in the putting green I’ve yet to find a putter as forgiving. I thought I’d be 5.5 style as I’ve always used a more offset neck but the 5 feels like it was built for me. Love it!

Putting is personal and I would recommend a fitting. Keep in mind that many tour pros are switching from blades to mallet putters. I'm sure a major reason is forgiveness. Good luck!

Check out the new phantom lineup for sure! Stay away from the .5 versions as those will have more toe hang. I had this issue as well and went with a phantom x5s which is the center shafted model and I absolutely love it!

Regardless of which putter you use, the pulling of putts will continue until you address the root cause. It could be an alignment issue and/or swing path issue. ideally, get professional help and build some practice drills to keep you from reverting back into you old ways. That said, changing up the style might help. Give the Phantom series a try.
