  1. OK first of all apologises as I cant seem to find a search button to continue my previous thread about getting to a handicap.

Last month I found a member willing to put up with me for three rounds at my club.

It was a very hot week, most have been this summer and I shot a 103 which I was happy with.

A few days later we played again and everything I hot when straight and where it was intended (mainly), even to the point of a second shot going into some trees but the third shot hitting the flag and stopping dead, although I did have to play up the 11th fairway whilst playing the 12th hole :), I managed 7 pars somehow (usually one or two and I'm happy) and put down for a 84 (42 in and out) I had to recount a few times to get to that just to be sure.

The third time that week didn't quite go as good but still managed a 90 (previously my best on the course was 99)

Obviously the dry weather has helped with the ball bouncing and rolling but I was very happy with the results so I handed my cards in to the pro.

The handicap came back and took the lowest score so gave me a handicap of 13 :). Now I'm never going to play to this, or anywhere near it ever again.

The committee met and have added another 5 strokes and put me up to 18, again I was going to be happy with 28 or just under, but 18 is scary :).

Havent played for a few weeks as a horsefly got me a few weeks ago but booked in for a game next week and really looking forward to seeing how I get on.

Anyway sorry to bore you, although if you have got this far, I'm guessing you aren't bored yet but this is my story.

I'm sure we all have stories similar to yours. Just keep at it and try to cut a stoke or two off your cap over the season.

The key is to always progress the score & handicap, even if it goes backwards once in awhile like this year has gone for me. I got down to a 13 last year and this year I am at 19.4 but i'm hitting the ball better but just not scoring as well.
There is nothing to fear though, play your best and it will all come together. The more scores you have the more accurate your handicap should become.

    Good luck
