I imagine this will be like the great toilet paper debate of does the sheet go over or under the roll. I’ve always kept my putter in the bottom slot of my bag with my wedges so all of my short game clubs are together. Watching golf on TV I see a lot of players keeping it in the slot with their woods which seems odd. Where do you keep yours and why?

Two most frequently pulled clubs from the bag of a tour pro are driver and putter. Caddies keep them where they are easiest to grab if the bag is on their shoulder. I like you, carry mine in the opening next to the bag legs with my wedges. Using the Players 4 bag I find it a bit tight if I kept the putter with the driver and 3 wood. I do try to keep them all in the same place so I can recognize quickly if I have left one behind. Actually never have but want to minimize the chance.

I keep mine in the top slot with the woods, I've just always done it that way. I can't think of a real reason why it might be better one way or another, for me it's easier to reach for I suppose, and it keeps all the clubs with headcovers in the same place.

My putter moves back and forth. Definitely goes with the wedges if the orange whip is with the woods (I carry driver and 2 fairways). It can get lost under irons, hybrids and shorter than the wedges, so it may be with the woods to find it faster.
Note the patent assigned has a diagram in the over position. No need for discussion. It is either right or not.
  5. I have the Hybrid 14 bag which, the way I've organized my clubs, allows my putter to have a slot (at the very "bottom" of the bag) all to itself. I'm with you: keeping your putter in the driver/fairway woods slot feels unnatural.

    Also, OVER the roll.

I put it with my driver. Your post got me thinking why I do that. First of all we got want our putter getting banged and clanked around, so we have a head cover on it. Sp i put it up there with the rest of the head cover clubs!

I've gone back and forth on this for the reason that the mallet head fits better in with the wedges' length. When I played blade putters, it used to be with the longer clubs. In any case, for as along as the head cover is on the putter, I'd go either way.
  8. My Scotty is at the top in the putter slot on my 2017 cart bag.

When I use my premium carry bag I put it at the top of the bag too.

The most used and valuable club in the bag deserve to be at the top of the bag don't you think?

Depends on the bag I'm using at the time. My 14 way divider Titleist bag, I keep it at the bottom with the wedges as well. My hoofer bag it basically goes where there is room & for quicker access. So that ends up being by the drivers, especially if I'm riding.

  11. I keep it in the top with my woods. I find it to be most accessible there as well as most protected. Gotta keep that Scotty in a good place. ;)

In the top slot with the woods, easier to get out when in a cart.

I have a Titleist Cart bag with the 14 divided area, so it has it's own place for the putter at the bottom center of the bag. I always have my Scotty head cover on it so it doesn't bang up against my wedge above and to the side of it. Plus I use iron covers as well so they don't bang off one another.

My other bag had a putter well (tube) on the front left side of the bag so it stayed away from the irons in that one too.

But I think it belongs with the short clubs if I had to pick a location,

Putter is kept in the same slots as the metal woods. I use a Players 4 Stand bag now, but have always kept my putter up top.

    Creature of habit I guess
