  1. Hi all. I am going to be in Phoenix/Scottsdale area in the end of February and am looking to play a few courses. I have a tee time booked at Southern Dunes but want to find at least 1 or 2 more courses to play. I've looked at a lot of classic course recommendations but so many of them are $300+ dollar price range and I am hoping to keep it somewhere below $200 per round if not closer to $100 ish.

What are the best courses down there for us golfers on a tighter budget?

    Thanks!

If you can afford it, Desert Mountain in Carefree, AZ is a must. I used to work at Desert Forest Golf Club years ago, but it's exclusive. Another good one is Papago Park (ASU team's home course now). So many to choose from there. Stonecreek is another good one. Played there once on an early Sat morning in 3.5 hrs.

    Have a fun trip!
  3. Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely look into both of those.

Played Longbow Golf Club in Mesa. Nice track and was reasonably priced.

I would highly recommend Quintero Golf Club. Pricey but IMHO the best course in Phoenix.
For around $100 The Founders Course at Verrado is awesome. And Aguia (sp?) is a great muni for around $50.
  6. I played McCormick Ranch and Talking Stick last year in late February and enjoyed both. Both were in great shape and in that under $200 you're looking for.

Quintero is a MUST.. Stay and Play at The Boulders, restful and peaceful!
  8. Some of our munis are really good (Aguila, Papago, GCU, Dobson Ranch) but difficult to get on during the winter. Southern Dunes is a great course but a hike from Scottsdale. Longbow is a good track, medium-priced, close to Scottsdale. You might get a pkg deal on the rez courses (Talking Stick, Whirlwind, We-Ko-Pa) they all have 2 courses, hotels, and they are all very good.
  9. I thought both courses at Troon North were really good when I played them several years ago. Not sure about the current price.
  10. Thanks all for the great course recommendations. We're still deciding but definitely going to go with something from these comments.

I recently visited Phoenix/Tempe last month for the first time and just winged it and stumbled on The Raven. It peaked my interest due to being an Arcis Corp Club and being from Dallas there are several nice Arcis properties here.
Course was very well maintained, not a hard layout but it was fun.
Make sure you order a John Daly...thank me later.
