Almost quit!

Almost quit!

The Players Club in Omaha is a great private 27 hole facility and we are blessed with lots of sunshine during the year. Today however, the rain came in as our usual Saturday foursome finished up the 13th hole. We debated quitting but decided to play on and pulled out our rain gear. It was a light drizzle as we stood on the 14th tee (I had the honor) and I decided on a 5-iron for the back pin position measuring 175-180 yards. Hit it slightly fat about 5 yards right of the flag, which is a good line since most ball will feed left. Landed it on the green but short and right thinking it would feed left somewhere to the middle of the green. I cursed about the fat shot and looked down to check on the divot taking my eyes off the green and then turning to my playing partners. Arvid calmly said ,,, "I think it went in, I saw it disappear". I couldn't be sure as I was sure it was going to be 15-20 feet short but still on the green. With the rain and almost 180 yards out it was hard to tell. Once approaching the green it became evident that it must be in the hole and as I bent down to pick it up from the hole I think it dawned on me that I had just hit my first hole-in-one. We managed to finish the round as the rain increased so the club house was busy with people coming in early finding shelter from the rain. Hence, a full club house bar enjoyed a beer on my account. I was really surprised how everyone was so happy for me and I can't remember giving so many high-fives for patrons congratulating me. Their happiness for me was the best part of getting my first hole-in-one.
