    I've got 2 weeks in Ireland coming up in May.  My wife and I plan to get 3-5 rounds in while there.  We'll need to pass on courses with handicap requirements.  Any recommendations, including Northern Ireland?  Asking for a links course may be redundant.  And Ballybunion is on the list already.  Definitely need at least one good visual backdrop for the bag tag.  Will probably be on the west and north more than around Dublin.

    Hi Dan,

    I would recommend Waterville, Killarney and Tralee golf clubs in Kerry. In Limerick, Adare Golf Club is spectacular. In Clare, Doonbeg, the old course in Lahinch. Further up the coast Rosses Point is supposed to be impressive also. I'm afraid that's all the help I can be. Best of luck and I hope you both enjoy your vacation.

    Got in rounds in Dunfanaghy Golf Club, Strandhill Golf Club, and Carne Golf Links for links courses.  Didn't have time south of County Mayo for Lanich and Ballybunion.  Wish I realized Lanich was within 3 miles of the Cliffs of Moher (a can't miss spot for an O'Brien...) - would have left time for there. 

    These 3 are hidden links, overshadowed by all the wonderful links courses around Ireland.  I'd recommend all 3 for those on the road less traveled.  I was near these because of some genealogy searches we were doing.   I'm not sure that there is such a thing as a bad links course.  Some offer more challenges, but these 3 were all great values at 25-70 euros.  Carne was the big surprise.  The elevation changes and sloped fairways made it play much longer than the rated meters.

    Also played a parkland course, local to a family site, with great pleasure.  Pretty hard to have a bad day playing golf in Ireland.
