  1. Recently, while the pond on our local golf course was being expanded I found a very old Titleist ball. It has the word Titleist with the smaller lettering Acushnet below and then the number. Can anyone tell me how old this ball is. I worked as an assistant pro at the course in the 60's and never remember seeing a Titleist with Acushnet printed this way.

    Hi Michael,

Good find. That ball most likely dates back to pre-1952. The nameplate on the golf balls was converted in 1952 to the Titleist script only.

  3. Thanks Mike for the info. Here in Vermont there is not much golf during February so when they started digging out that pond I decided to see what I could find in the way of old balls. The course and pond have been there since 1924. I have watched the evolution of the Titleist golf ball since the 1960's but I had not seen anything from before that time.

I now have a new hobby, I am collecting Titleist golf balls from each generation from the Pro Vx to and the NXT tour, which I play now as far back as I can go. When I was working at the course as an Asst. Pro in the 60's the big thing was the 80, 90, 100 compression wound ball. I remember the red nameplate on the 80. I actually found a couple of those in the pond as well. Do you know if there is any kind of printed history of the ball. I know it first appeared in the 1930's but it would be nice to have a guide showing how it evolved into the ball we use today.

    Thanks again for the information,

    Michael

  7. Michael P curious if you were able to come up with any info. I’m trying to figure out what model(s) were available in 1974 and then purchase one for a project I’m doing. I just can’t remember what we used back then.
  8. Thanks, 1949-- these balls are over 60 years old !!!!!!

  9. I have also found a very old looking Titleist Acushnet ball. This ball has Acushnet printed in small letters on the side of the ball. (basically where it would say "Pro V1" now) Also has small "5"s printed inside of several of the dimples. Any idea on the date of manufacture?

I have come across 2 dozen titleist Club special golf balls still in the original boxes. The balls have black printing for number and lettering. And have Acushnet on one side with a number and Club Special with a number on the other side. Just wondering if they have any value at all. I used this same ball back in the 60's. Appreciate any responses!
