I received a sleave of Titleist golf balls this past week and asked to take a survay for Prototype2, it had a putting line that said TEST, and a Red number.

I am hoping they release these golf balls, because my test results were very favorable.  They were long, consistent in the wind, and had a soft feel off chip shots and the putter.

Would love to know what I was hitting, so I can keep an eye out for them.

    Red #s are ProV1x balls.    ProV1's are black #

Like Dan G., I'm also wondering which ball I received.  I received the black number and it may be just because I'm swinging well right now but this is the best ball I've ever played.  Appears to have less spin with more penetrating flight off the driver, and feels really good off the irons.  And spin is excellent around the greens. I'm going to be very disappointed when my sleeve of three balls is gone.  Like Deno, I'm assuming the black number ball is the ProV1 and the red number ball is the ProV1x, but I would really like a confirmation from Titleist.

I've read the replies in other posts from Mike DePaolo that says these are just test balls that are part of the ongoing R&D process.  So I guess that's the only answer we'll get.  One thing for sure, I'll be buying the new ProV1 as soon as it hits the shelves in February. I'm hoping I'll get balls just like the ones I received for this test.

I would have lost the farm when I compared my sleeve to the pro v1's I have, could have sworn they were nxt tours with the dimple pattern.

I also received a sleeve of ProV1 balls for testing however, I cannot get on the site to input my results. Id there another link I can use? The results are fantastic, love them.

There is no way the black balls are ProV1's, I play that ball and the black ball is closest to the NXT Tour, or even the velocity

I got the same balls and completed the survey.. played Sunday with the usual guys and one (who played pro and has been my 4 ball partner this past year) commented that he'd never seen me drive the ball as well... at 60 it's always nice to find a yard or two off the tee and still be in the short stuff... the balls are black and have test where they might say prov1 on an aiming line.. the ball seems more durable as well... like the larger dimple pattern and would switch from my current prov1 to what I would guess is the the new prov1 tomorrow based on 3 rounds in ideal conditions here near Monterey, CA..

yes I did my testing and I think they out did themselves. Love the sound of the driver and it was very consistent into the wind and believe me it was windy. My shipping my goodness that baby sat. Mid irons good and held the green well.

My sleeve arrived this past Saturday, just in time for Hurricane Sandy to shut our course down (Lawrence GC, Long Island, NY).  I am hoping to be able to get out and demo these before it's too late.

I had the red balls - felt they were very similar to an X, but a little lower trajectory (which I really liked) but MUCH more durable than the current X.  All in all it's hard to really tell distance without perfect conditions, and a perfectly repetitive swing, but they felt as good if not better than the current X.

My biggest beef with the X is how easy it is to scuff with a short iron.  I have lots of retired X's that are now my practice balls due to a 52 degree wedge shot and subsequent big scuff on the cover...

I entered the string you listed into explorer and I got the survey page. How does the survery know that I'm giving my feedback and that I've tested the balls sent me????

    Maybe they don't care.

If they don't know how will they know to send me the next testing item?

Played the balls...    black #1 ...great distance on drives .. but like others ,answered survey but was not ask about any login info  .... buckyd24

  16. I tested the black prototype1 balls today. Felt great driving the ball and I outhit with all clubs the  ZstarXV that I normally play. I was diappointed in the spin and the feel putting. But the drives were awesome. Not sure if it was a pro v1 or not. Usually I cut the cover on pro V1s with my wedges and this ball survived 9 holes with a few minor scuffs. It will be interesting to hear from Titleist what ball it was

I got the black number 1 ball, also.  I liked this ball off the tee, but I was definitely disappointed in the spin with my wedges.  I went online to do the survey, and it did not prompt me for login info.

  18. I too got the Red number and the Prototype 2 balls.  Not sure if they are the Pro V1 or V1x but seems like a hybrid between them to me.  About a bit longer than the Pro V1x with about the same side spin, but a heck of a lot softer around the greens and a bit more pin than the Pro V1.  I cannot wait to get these in my bag.

The test balls that I tested all have black letters and numbers.  From 150 yards in from the green had better control with the test ball. Around the green, chipping, pitching and putting was better with the test ball. I feel that my game was better by several strokes.

I feel that the test ball was not any better off the tee.

I feel that the test ball out performed  other balls the I played.  I would use these balls when they are on the market.

  21. I too would love to be able to test these prototype balls, I'm such a fan of comparing new and old products and the R&D process. Plus who doesn't love free swag.

  22. Team Titliest members are randomly selected to get the test balls. You can't "get them"

I was one of the fortunate to receive the sleeve of Test balls. on Monday. Weather was giving me fits until Wed. and while a tad cool, (51 degs.) and wind out of NW at 15 to 20, I layered up and got in a round with the test balls against my favorite while here at home. the ProV1x.

The test was, in my humble opinion, really worth it. I was impressed with the increased distance, off my driver and 4 & 5 irons. With mid irons, also increased distance, and with the wedges I was really impressed with the sticking power of the ball from distances of 80 to 20 yds. Also liked the really soft feel of the new ball and it seemed to have a lower spin rate with the driver and upper numbered irons 4 - 6. Overall, the test balls out-performed the ProV1x. That said, some of it may have been due to the weather conditions as I have found in the past that I have to go to a different Titleist ball, (NXT Tour) for the colder weather, anything below 55 degs. here in Iowa to achieve the same results from the ProV1x I normally get in the warmer weather.

My last comment on this was ask that Titleist let me know when this new ball becomes available so I can purchase a dozen.

Seems like a really good ball! I got the red # ones and played with them yesterday. It was a crowded public course so no direct comparison. I played the same ball all day (until #18 when it found the water). I seemed to pick up a few extra yards with the driver, 3 wood and hybrid. Didn't seem to have too much side spin but I was able do draw or fade the ball when i needed (that is, when my swing cooporated). Good feel with the irons, checked up well on the greens and responded well chipping and putting.

My only question is - can I Pre-order a dozen??

I am anxious to know for sure what ball this is

I played  the type1 today over 36 holes and loved the ball. My first round was using my  Jpx800 pro irons (forged) and on my second round I switched to  eye 2 (cast).                                                                                                                                              My score on the first round was 84 and the second was 82. the temperature ranged from 77 to 82 degrees an a 9 mph wind.

The type 1 consistently went about 5 to 7 yards longer off the driver and about the same range off my fairway woods.  What most surprised me was how well the ball held on shots into the green. While most shots stopped within 12 to 18 inches of its pitch mark two shots drew back.

Shots struck well felt a little firmer than my regular ProV but I seemed to control them better.

I am interested in finding out more about the change in the dimple pattern.

I got the red numbered balls in the mail today which is the Pro V1xs. Hopefully my test is a success with the my test with the ProV1xs. I need to play with one ball instead of playing different kinds of balls.

This is my first time getting anything from titleist (hopefully i get more in the future) and I received the red lettered balls today in the mail and got to play on the course with them. I usually play ProV1x and found these prototype balls to have a slight softer feel with my irons and a noticeable gain in distance from the tee box. Overall, I had a first good outing with these new balls but will have to test more at my usual course I play.

I just received mine today.  I am so excited to get out there and see what these can do.  I think I jump around on balls more than anything else.  My last favorite was the Hex Chrome, so I will be using those to compare.  I'm going to try to get out tomorrow and play my favorite hole at my home course and start from the tee and then just go down the line with long irons, mids, short in both full and abreviated and then take it around the green for chips, flops, and bump and runs and then put them and see what happens.  I'll report when the test is done.  Wish me luck.

    Hi guys,

Just to clarify, the golf balls that were sent out as part of the product test panel are part of our ongoing golf ball R&D process and are just test golf balls.

As you can imagine, we are constantly developing prototype golf balls and through the evaluation process we review the feedback we receive to continue along the R&D path.

Thanks again for helping us out with the test panel.

    Cheers,

    Mike

Thanks, as a long time fan of the ProV and ProV1x, I would be very dissapointed if this ball (black numbers) replaced them.  Fairways off the tee aside, this ball is not great with the scoring clubs; it's a stone.

    Hi Kyle,

Thanks for the post. The survey does not require you to provide any log in information. There was a misprint in some of the instructions that went out. Our apologies for any confusion and thanks for helping us out with the test panel.

I test a new titleist protype ball also I thought the ball for 60 yds spun less than the Prov1 iI was comparing it too. but on chips ist seemed to check up a little fast than the ProV.

Hybrids seem to go straight & further. Soft feel than a Prov1X.

Off the tee both balls performed the same as spin but the test ball seem to go further with more rollby abour 15 to 20 yrds.

Both the Prov1 and test ball seemed to peform well for me. I got more distance out of the test ball but could control both the Prov1 & the Prov!X more. Maybe because I play woth them more.

I recieved the black #1 ball.

    WOW!

Long off tee (30 more yds), bores thru the wind, stops on a dime and love the soft feel off the club face.

The dimple design was like any of the Titleist balls i have.

    Wish they would tell us.

Could be the Pro V or the NXT Tour S

I also received the Prototype2 test balls and they fly higher and longer with driver, hybirds and longer irons; I felt they did very well on full wedge shots from 100 yards in, they seemed to not spin as well from 40 yards in and half wedges, pitches and chips however I could get use to them quickly since the rest of the game was impressive with these balls. Hopefully we can get additional information on these balls.
