Titleist prototype balls

Hard to say how you're selected.  Probably demographics, good looks, or just dumb luck.

I received a sleeve last week and played them over the weekend.  New dimple design seemed to give the ball a higher and flatter flight.  Slightly longer than the old Pro V it seemed.  Around the greens they were as good as the current model.  They also seemed more durable to scuffs.  Definite improvement.

Best of luck.

I received a sleeve of the new prototype test balls.  I thought the feel of the balata was amazing.  I am a fairly longer hitter and found it longer then the X.  The only thing i noticed was it seemed to scuff a little more on the 60 yard pitch shots.  It still had great feel around the green though but just noticed more scuffs on it then compared to the X.

i lov the titleist golf balls and use them every round..

I don't think I was selected this time since I haven't recieved any but I will keep my fingers crossed for future tests .

I don't think buying new Irons has anything to do with it.  I have been using my 990's forever and was lucky enough to be selected in the test panel.  I think it was more random.  I would say just keep your profile updated, and participate in the Forum and keep your head up- you'll get picked for something.

I really liked the test ball.

It took some time to get used to, as the spin was less around the greens, and I couldn't shape my shots as much as I'm used to with the ProV.  The ball is way more durable.  I played 5 times with the same ball and it only suffered one scuff (took a nice slap from the cart path).  I used the same ProV for 4 of the 5 rounds and it's way worse off.

Tee shots- Test ball was longer, straighter, and rolled more.  I got a more penetrating ball flight.

Hybrids and 3 Wood- About the same, test ball was a touch longer, and didn't shape as much

Irons- About the same, Test ball was maybe a yard or two longer, and didn't shape as much

Wedges- More spin with the Pro V (check and spin backwards a yard or so)  test ball- check and stop

Chips- more spin with the Pro V.  I allowed for more roll out with the test ball, and it was consistent as ever.  The only time I like the Pro V better was with tight lies and from the sand

Putting- I like the feel of the Pro V.  Test ball felt good, but had a click sound to it.   I just like the softness and feel of the Pro V

I'm not sure if it's a new Pro V or what.  The dimples were different than the Pro V, and the color was a little different too.  The first round I wasn't convinced that the test ball was a keeper, but by the end of the testing I'm sold.  I will be picking up a box or two of these beauties.

I agree, I've been a loyal Titleist user for 15-20 years(bought too many Titleist clubs but I love them anyway) but I'm little peeved that I heard that few people that just bought new Titleist clubs recently for 1st time got some prototype balls while many of us longtime loyal Titleist customers didn't get any.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the post. We certainly appreciate your feedback. Sorry you weren't selected for this recent test panel but there will be more opportunities in the future for Team Titleist members to participate in other test panels.  Thanks again and stay tuned.

I received some Test balls as well. Funny thing is, I gave the exact same feedback on my survey. I play with the 2009 Pro V1 as well. Don't get me wrong, the Test ball was indeed an excellent ball. For the time being, I'm going to keep playing with the Pro V1. However, I'll keep fiddling around with the Test balls. Who knows what will happen? It would defenitely take some time to get used to but could very well be worth it!

Yup, I played this year's Pro V1, (not sure if it's 09 or 10), and during the first round I was yelling "cut!" or "draw" at the ball from any approach shot I needed to shape.  After a little adjustment I could play the shape and loved the ball.

Chipping required a little more roll out as well.  I'm not sure what ball I got to demo, (it just said TEST) but it kind of felt like a cross between the 1 and 1x.  I always liked the 1x better off the tee, but the extra yards are not enough to sacrifice the check and stop, and the putting/ chipping feel of the 1.

This ball checked and stopped nicely (where as the 1 would spin back, and the 1x would roll out).

Durability is an issue for me as well.  I can get maybe 36 holes out of a Pro V1, but the Test Ball seems like it holds up way better.  I don't lose many balls so having one that will hold up will definitely let me spend more money on golf and less on balls.  I've got enough balls in the shag bag already.

The only thing I prefer the 1 to over the test ball was putting and chips with tight landings where I couldn't account for more roll out.  Did you feel it had a weird, click type sound when putting too?

(I'm a head case I know)

Either way it was an awesome experience.

To Team Titleist:  When all the testing is over, will you tell us what ball we got to Demo (Pro V, 1x, or something else)?

I saw there was a sleeve of the prototypes on ebay about an hour ago if anyone is willing to pay for them.

I was selected to try them and I have never registered a titleist club.  Just signed up for team titleist about 5 or 6 years ago and that's it.  So, I'd say it's almost certainly random or may have to do with the player profile you filled out.  They may be targeting a certain type of player or skill level.

Wow I can't believe someone would Ebay these.  People will sell anything now a days.

Avtually it is based upon your activity one team titleist

I must tell you that I hit mine today and they are definitely straighter, less spin off the tee. I hit some bombs 310,several 270 to 290. Normally hit penta or pro v1x 250 to 270. Correct on the harder ball, I can tell on my pith and bump and run shots. great putting as well but harder. I would buy these over any of the other balls.

I'm not sure of the selection process, but I'll be playing them today.  Can't wait to test them out in my tournament.  I'll let you know how it goes.

i heard that it was a random draw and your profile has to be 100% complete

does anybody know when the new provs will be out

i wish i could give these a try...they sound like the perfect ball for me...longer straighter off the tee with more spin than the X

I tried these balls in a tournament last Friday.  First drive was 324, second was 322, which is extremely long for me!  They stopped and backed-up nicely on the greens too.  I'm addicted and need more.  When /where can I get some?
