nice setup.  i would say that the hybrid would be more versatile since it's easier to hit vs a fairway wood when you're not in the short grass.  plus the shorter shaft in the hybrid will give you a bit more control.

I don't see how a 17*h and a 17*f could fill the same distance gap.

For all the same reasons you hit a 21*h higher and farther than a 21* iron, you should be hitting a fairway wood higher and farther than the same loft hybrid.

I hit a 19* 904f higher and a little farther than a 17* 585.h

So when I use 17*f I also use 17*h, when I use 15*f I use 19*f(I do sometimes use the 17*h with the 15*f, doesn't make a lot difference, using the 19*f my biggest gap is 19*f-21*h, using the 17*h my biggest gap is 15*f-17*h)

For all the same reasons a hybrid is easier to hit than an iron, the fairway is easier to hit than a hybrid, plus 19* loft makes the fairway even easier to hit than the 17*h, so I usually use the 19*f.

When I used a premium spin ball(ProV1), I also used a 13* 906f, like you, mainly off the tee, and the 17* seemed to be a logical match. But my swing speed isn't good enough to use 13* and NXT, which is the ball I use now, next year I don't know what I'll be using. If I can still do my short game shots with the new NXT then I will still use it, if I can't, then I'm on another ball search.

Whether one uses a fairway wood or hybrid is a matter of personal preference. Ditto with a steel shafted or graphite shafted hybrid. Distance wise, if you put a 17 fww, 17H and 17 iron side-by-side, the wood gets 10 more yards vs the hybrid and 20 vs the iron. The trajectory is highest with the wood and lowest with the iron. My case in point is that I hit a 21 fww the same distance as a 16-18H and 10 more yards vs a 22H. The other side of the coin is that I hit a 5 iron hybrid farther than a 9 wood. I also carry a 34 deg "approach" hybrid with a steel shaft (in addition to the 6 and 7 irons) - I hit it VERY STRAIGHT and can control trajectory and distance pretty easy.
