Not sure about set composition...

I am planning on buying a new set of Titleist golf clubs at the start of next year. I don't hit the ball very high and I have a slow swing speed. Not totally sure what model of irons to get (AP2, MB, etc.) and what clubs to get (4-9, 5-PW, etc.). Any response would be helpful.

I would definitely recommend locating a titleist visiting center and spend the money to find the best equipment for you.

There is page of recommended setups here at Titleist ("Golf Club Fitting" under the Golf Clubs tab). May consider a 12* loft driver, 17 and 21 fairways with 24 and 27 hybrids and 6-PW.  Still, best idea is to get fit to determine set makeup and shaft flex.  I carry 13* draw driver, 910F 19*, 910H 21 and 27*, AP1 7-PW, SM c-c 50-04 and 54-14, SM4 60-10 and White Hot putter. Just to give you an idea, my driver swing speed is 82-85 mph and my average drive is 220-240.  I hit the 19 fairway 190 yards.  The 21H is 175.  27H is 160.  7 iron is 145.  8 iron is 135, 9 iron 120, PW 105, 50 is 90 yards 54 is 80 and 60 is 65 yards. I'm a 13 handicap. I use A flex on the driver, 19F and 21H (but they are 1" shorter than stock and with an upright lie angle); I use regular flex on the 27 and the irons and wedge flex on the 50-54-60. I don't carry the 24 hybrid because it has little distance gain vs the 27 and likewise with the 6 iron.  I don't carry a 3 wood because I have a 13* driver and the fairways are pretty closely cut in San Diego.

I would personally recommend a 54 and 60 for sand wedge on the recommended slow swing speed setups. If you go with AP1s, a 50 is a good gap wedge.  With the others no need for a gap wedge.  If you desire to add a gap wedge, could possibly replace the 21 fairway and 24H with a 21 hybrid.

Henry -

Go elsewhere on this web sit to Golf clubs - Fitting - and find "the right clubs for you".  This will give you an idea where you and the fitter will start. I am a slower swing speed and fairly new to the game (started 3 years ago, been serious for 2 years).  Love my AP1 - 24/27 910H - 17/21 910F and 910 D2 10.5.  But these fit me.  My ball striking is still not quite ready for CB/MB and the more foregiving AP1 helps me hit amazing iron shots for height and accuracy.

Slower speeds and lower shots will likely drift you towards AD65 graphite shafts on the irons and your ball striking will help determine the AP1/AP2/CB.  But my bag ended up like the Titleist recommendation before I even found it.

I might add that I arrived at my golf setup by trial and error since 2006.  Prior to that I played old school clubs (some form of persimmon or laminated 3 and 4 wood, X31 2-PW irons and Haig Ultra Dual Wedge).  Didn't play a lot between 1993 and 2006 (and didn't swing a club between 1995 and 1999 and also between 2003-2006).

I played with an 11 degree fairway wood during 2006 because I couldn't hit a driver (and I finally started learning to hit them in 2007 when my dad sent a Cobra X Speed along with 975F fairways).  I also played with steel shafts on the fairways and hybrids until 2010 because I wasn't used to the extra length on the graphite shafts (I also learned a few things about club fitting during 2009-2010).   I played with a lofted fairway wood alongside a 5 iron hybrid between 2006-2011 and have carried some form of 31-35 deg hybrid in place of the 6 iron and 7 iron up until last year (I even carried a 38 hybrid between 2008-2011 with my DIY irons; the 5-7 irons were hollow "transition" and just couldn't hit them).   I've had 3DX, G10, Excel Strong (a clone), Heavenwood, Burner and SQ2 hybrids until arriving at the 910s.  My go to combo for the middle game between mid 2010-mid 2011 was a persimmon 10 wood and 34 hybrid (and I shot 42 for 9 holes first time out with a 980F 3 wood, persimmon 5 and 10 woods in mid 2010).  I played  a Burner 7 wood from the beginning of 2011 until this May (played Superfasts briefly before switching to 910F) and my hybrid combo between Mar 2011 and Mar 2012 was an SQ2 26 and 34 (morphed to using a Superfast 27 and the AP1 7 iron).   The 910F was a pure accident - I was perusing Play It Again Sports and saw one at a good price and traded the Superfast 5-18 and 4-21 (got them on clearance anyway with almost no cash because of trade ins).   I played the Superfast 27H until August and got the 910H 27 (one of my friends is really nailing the Superfast now).  I just got the 910H 21* in October.

Wedges - first real wedge set in 2006 was Harmonized 50,55,60,64.  I switched to a 258-12 Vokey Tour Chrome in 2007 (in place of the 55 and 60; PW and GW were P2 47 and 51) and used it until 2009.   Briefly played a VFoil 50.   Played DIY PW and SW between 2009-2011 and used CG15 DSG 58 and 64 in 2009 and SM2 60-07 and 64-07 thru mid 2011.  Been using the SM c-c 50-08 and 54 (54-11 followed by 54-14 when changing to AP1 irons) since mid 2011.   Carried a SM c-c 62-07 from mid 2011 and briefly tried a SM c-c 58-04 and replaced both with an SM4 60-10 in May.  I played with an SM4 52-12 (which I intend on keeping - got it used) briefly but found out that I fare better with the two SM c-c wedges.
