  1. I am a golfer in high school looking to improve my game for next year. Right now, I usually shoot around 40 or 41 on 9 holes and anywhere from 75-85 on 18. I am 16 years old and want to hit better consistent approach shots, so I can shoot in the 70s on a regular basis. Sometimes I have trouble hitting a 3 or 4 iron well, and maybe my 5 once in a while, but I am usually pretty solid with my mid to short irons.

For a player of my skill level, would you recommend Titlest DCI 981 Irons or Titleist 735.CM Irons?

    Thanks for your help.

    Logan,

The DCI 981 irons have quite a bit of offset compared to the 735.CM irons which will help hit the ball a little higher and are probably a litter more forgiving.  I used to play a set of 735.CM's and they are a great set if you like not much offset and like to work the ball a bit.  The 8,9, & PW are blades and not a cavity back like the 3 thru 7 iron.

Based on your skill level, the 735 CM's would be a good set if your serious about your game.

    Best of Luck!

The DCI 981s have a higher ball flight.   I had a set 4-GW last year.   I also picked up a couple 735 CM irons from the bin (8 and 9).    The DCIs lost out to Eye 2s because I was much more consistent with the latter, although the longer irons on the DCIs were a little easier to hit.   I tried the 735CM 8 and 9 irons with the intent of using my Vokey 50 as a PW and found that I could hit my AP1 PW the same distance as the CM 9 iron (with that having been said, the DCIs may get a couple yards more based on my Eye 2 distances).   DCIs are pretty inexpensive (generally about $85-115 per set on eBay).
