I am thinking of upgrading my 962's (14yrs old).  I pretty much stopped playing in '02 and only played a few times a year until this year.  When I played and practiced regularly I played to a 4.5.  With the exception of my getting my short game back I can still hit the ball solid.  Any suggestions or comments on the CB's versus the MB's.  Also, I still have the old 975J 8.5 and PT15* Mid-size.  I know, I have an antique bag. lol.  Any thoughts on how much distance I can expect to gain with a 910 or possibly a 913 when they come out.  I appreciate any thoughts and feedback anyone has to offer.

    Thanks,
    Josh

Goodluck! I posted something very similar and only got "go get fitted" as the answer. I thought the whole purpose of message boards like this was to find out information from people that have experienced it themselves and are willing to share instead of just insisting we go pay to have someone tell us....

Thanks for the reply. I am going to get fitted regardless of which clubs I choose. I know that looks and feel are very personal when it comes to clubs so I guess that may be why these type posts are difficult to respond to. Again thanks for the reply. Josh

    Hi Josh,

I used to play the 962B's. Hard to give them up. I'm using AP2's now and find them to be much easier to hit without sacrificing the workability that made the 962's so solid. It was an easy transition and the AP2's are fantastic. I think the 'go get fit' answer is still a good one. Launch monitors will tell you about the benefits of the shaft and club head. For example, when I was fit, I tried the CB's and AP2's and my launch and ball speed was better with the AP2's, made the decision easy. Could be the same or different for you, all depends on your swing and ball flight.

As for 910 or 913, with the ability to adjust with SureFit and improved overall technology in the club head, you will definitely benefit over the 975. Optimizing launch is the best way to improve distance and control. I guarantee you notice a difference and hopefully get some great performance benefits too. Tough to say how much distance you will gain, but with a proper fit shaft and SureFit, I would bet you gain some meaningful yards in distance and accuracy.

    Jeremy,

Thanks for the info.  I am anxious to hit the AP's and CB's.  I glad to know that you had trouble getting rid of the 962's.  They are a great model.  Thanks again for the info.

  6. Josh,

I too was stuck with 962's, the 962b's though.  I have had them since college and as 14 years old, figured it was time to upgrade.  I hit the MB's, CB's and AP2's, and have settled with the AP2's.  They are a bit larger than the 962, but I feel that the flight and forgiveness is so much better.  I initially though I would go into the CB's but I was not able to work the ball as I am with the AP2's.  I have not noticed any difference in distance, but I too had a 975 9.5, 15 and 18.  I actually went to a 905T 10.5 an average 320 with it so no need to change to a 910, a 913 may be on the Christmas list though.  I went to a 910F 15, and gained about 15 yards on my 3 wood.

You best bet is to get out an hit them for sure, see what club head you like when you look at it, and how it feels when you hit it.  Then you can play with shafts to get it a bit higher or lower.  If you are going to play more, I would highly recommend a fitting so they can also guide you in the right direction.
