Saw a couple posts about a matte black finish for the Titleist woods. I also hope they provide this finish as an option on the new series of woods coming out at the end of this year.  But for this season i decided to try painting the crown of my 913 D3 913 Fd and 913H.  I bought all of the supplies and after i started sanding down the original paint i found that it kept a pretty cool matte looking black finish.  Obviously i didn't sand too much off but i took off enough that it took away the glare. What is left is a black/dark gray matte finish.  You can see some of the sanding marks but in my opinion it actually looks pretty awesome. Im sure with fine sand paper and a smooth enough touch you could blend this pretty well. If i end up hating it I will just go through with painting it flat black.  But this way it leaves the alignment aid and the "titleist" on the toe side of the head.  I'm sure its been done or someone has posted about it but thought i would share this anyway for anyone who wanted a matte finish. I could post some pictures later on today after work if anyone cares to see!

I added one additional step.  I re-taped off the crown and sprayed some matte clear coat.  It turned the dark grayish color to a perfect flat black. I am actually shocked how well it turned out. hah. Did my driver and 3 wood.  Both turned out perfect.

Any chance you could give a little more detail on the supplies you used and the way you sanded? Your driver looks incredible so I am going to try this with my 915!!
