    Hello,

Currently I am i the market to upgrade my irons.

I am a trying to decide between the Ap1 and 2.  Been hitting a 6 iron in both.

Honestly the only difference I see is a miss with the 2 is really bad and flat ugly compared to the 1. However I seem to pull the 1 quite a bit and while the pulls are solid, the majority of solid shot s with the 2 are spot on.   I've only hit the 6 irons but to the feeling that I am getting is that I have a much more tighter grouping with the 2's but the 1's will "have your back" so to speak more on the brain dead swings but even then a 20 yard pull isn't much more appealing than a 50 yard worm burner on a miss..

Just curious to input from anyone. I know that my heart likes the look of the 2's and they are the same size as my 14 year old clubs.  Any ideas on the pulls with the 1's vs not the 2's? same shafts

just a follow up.. went out for a quick 9 today, used ap1 or ap2 off every tee(bare ground) just to get some on course feel with them. still felt like I couldn't see much difference in the two clubs other than the "pure" feeling from the 2's.  I did feel like I hit the 2's just as high as the 1's which surprises me.. i only hit one intentional punch out draw and it was with the 2's. (that's about the extent of my shapig the ball on purpose during a round a punch out draw/hook or punch out fad/cut)  I wish i had tried the shot with the 1 but i cant imagine that you couldn't hit the same type of shot with a 1?

Anyway I guess my question is if you are flushing it other than look and feel what do you really get from the 2's that the 1's dont do at a cheaper price?

Is the shaft in the AP1 a softer flex than the AP2?  That could explain the pull if too soft.  A good fitter should resolve that.

Quite frankly, I can't shape a shot with the AP1.  Very little fad or draw, just push right or left when not straight on.  Which, in my case, is not necessarily a bad thing.  Off center hits don't lose much, that's a benefit for me.  If my back gets too stiff, my consistency suffers.  If you are a good or improving ball striker, the AP2 is more workable if you want to be creative.

There are some things you can do with an AP1 pretty well.....  such as a 30 yard bunker shot in soft sand.

I have a simple and straightforward suggestion - locate a certified Titleist fitter in your area and make an appointment .  You will be able to hit both clubs with various shafts and save yourself a lot of time trying to decide what is best for you.  The experience will be enjoyable and insightful.  The decision that you and the fitter make will be based on facts, numbers, and the observations of a true professional fitter.  Good luck and keep us posted.

I agree get fitted. i had old 690 mb irons that i hit ok. I went to get fitted and hit the new 714 mb and ap2s i ended up buying ap2 so i can have a little more forgiveness and farther distance. shafts are perfect to my swing same with lie and everything. the fitter will take care of everything and show you on facts and numbers like tom just said to get you into the perfect club. Mine are supposed to be here tomorrow!

Tom has given you some good advice.   You do not want to have to second guess your decision>

Go with the fitter.  You could very well end up with a combo set (Titleist sells the irons individually).

  9. The only diffeerence i see between them is that the AP1's are a lot more forgiving. I also like the feel of the irons when hit in the sweet spot

Listen to Tom & Luke. I bought the AP2's last fall. I tried them and knew what I wanted based on what I was coming from. My buddy yesterday tried both. AP2 on the front 9 (he really wanted the AP1's but someone else had them out), and then the AP1's on the back. While I love the feel, flight and workability of the AP2's, he intern doesn't work the ball, same flight all the time, and wanted more forgiving as opposed to feel. He felt he hit the AP1's better for him, but is STILL going to get fit on the meter with the pro and make sure they are right for him. It's worth the time to do it right.
