I was watching this as well last night and was shocked to see how many counterfeit clubs are confiscated each year.  Great time spent with the Titleist folks in the segment and it was interesting to see them cut the club apart to see inside to determine its authenticity.  Another interesting component is when they put the original and counterfeit clubs on the Iron Byron to see exactly how they stood up to each other.  Even though the counterfeit was next to impossible to detect from appearances, the performance was certainly different once you put the club on the ball.

Never buy a piece of golf equipment unless you can verify the authenticity first hand.

I have seen people get burned on ebay purchasing bogus clubs...one of my buddies played 3 years with a fake TM Driver and didn't even know it...I guess in some cases when your game is real bad even the bogus club will be game changer.

I DVR'd this show last night and looking forward to watching it in the next day or so. I've known for some time that the counterfeit market is astonishingly huge. But I do agree, you get what you pay for. Stay true to Titlelist - the fakes may look good in the bags but their performance are the real story - not good.

Never ever thought of buy fake clubs......I always want the real thing......just does not make good sense....

They also tested the fakes versus real and compared the performance of the equipment.  Was pretty eye-opening.

It was a really good episode and very informative.  It's another good reason to buy your products from respected places.  There's a reason we play Titleist and it's based on performance, and it would be terrible playing an inferior product thinking it was the real deal. 

It was a terrific segment. I was glad to see how proactive the Achusnet company, specifically the Titleist brand is in stopping this.  I think I am restating the obvious, but if the deal looks to good to be true, it probably is.  Stick with purchasing clubs from an authorized rep.  This keeps the local pros in business and allows purchases to be guarenteed they are authentic.

There is no way of getting around the fact that when it comes to golf equipment you definitely get what you pay for, you may see an occasional sale  where you see %20 off but these people were paying 1/2 price. That's just not going to happen.

It shows that it will be replayed a lot, including tonight. Just check the Golf Channel listing in your area, but mine shows that it's on today at 7pm and 10pm, so I just set up my Tivo. 

Years ago I was at the PGA merchandise show in Orlando and they busted almost a whole floor at the Peabody Hotel across the road from the Convention Center. Complete rooms full of counterfeits! They are everywhere!!.....
