First off,I would appreciate a response from a Titleist club concierge

I played the 712 AP1 for a couple years, and recently pulled the trigger on the AP2s. They are really amazing irons; however, the distance loss is killing my game!! My 150 club was a 3/4 8 iron, and now it's a well-struck 7. Perfect example. My local course has a 158 yard, downhill par 3 over water onto a 2-tiered green. Depending on tee box location, I'd hit a 9 iron if the boxes were in the front, an 8 the rest of the way. Yesterday, there was a light rain here in NY and temps were in the 60's. I teed up my usual 2k15 ProV1, and hit one of the cleanest, straightest shots of the day- possibly since I purchased the AP2's. The ball exploded off the club and instantly I thought I was going 20 yards over the green. But as I am watching the ball launch- it just dies, and plugs in the rough about 7 yards short of the green. With my AP1's, if I hit a well struck 8 iron, I'd be on the top tier of the green, or over it.

I will sum up my issues and specs and questions:

    1. I know the lofts are 1* weaker than the AP1 712s I previously played

    2. I was fitted, and a -3/4" shaft was recommended due to my very short wrist-to-floor measurement (31.25"), but my AP1s were standard length (didn't get fitted for those)

    3. I had the stock TT Dynamic Gold 300S on the AP1, but went with the XP95 shafts for the AP2s, which is marketed to add 6-8 yards to your irons

    4. Is the shortened shaft combined with 1* weaker irons contributing to slower swing speeds, therefore shorter distances?

    5. Would bending my AP2s 1 or 2* strong help remedy this problem? I have no Titleist dealers in my area, so where can I go?

I need to figure out how to fix this, because I spent a TON of money on these irons!

Just for reference, the ball is explosive off the club face, but somehow the distance dies. I'm at a loss. Catho, I might need you on this one!!

Hi,  Yes, the shortened shaft in combination with 1° weaker irons, different heads and lighter shafts probably contributed to shorter distances.  It sounds like both the shaft length as well as the spin differences are contributing factors.  Bending your irons 1-2° might help a little, but will not give you your total distance back.  Give us a call at 1-888-TITLEIST (888-848-5347)and we can go over some options.

I just purchased the ap2 irons as well and noticed a huge loss of distance. I'm disappointed in the fact that I also hit my 9 iron 145-150 with my previous irons (TM tour burner irons) and I struggle to hit my Titleist 8 iron 150yrds. I hit standard lie and length as well. I'm a 7 handicap. I love the feel and accuracy of the titleist irons but the lack of distance is very disappointing. I spent a lot of money on these irons to be disappointed! What can I do to fix this issue?

I'm just going to be the 'devil's advocate' here. The clubs you just purchased 714 APS's with TT Dynamic Gold 300S. These are a wonderful golf club. I can understand you're sense of panic in loosing a little yardage. Have you considered moving to a 300R shaft, they would generate a little more kick than a stiff shaft.

One last thing, "distance", is an over rated notion to be concerned with, in my opinion. Marketing campaigns are 'buttered' with the promise of distance. Distance comes from you, not a club face. If there was one true club face that legitimately delivered substantial driving distance, don't you think all the pros would play that one club?

Hey, I apologize, all. I actually used to play the Dynalite Gold XP S300 shafts. I ended up pulling the XP95 shafts and had the DG XP put back on. I gained all of my distances back. The DG XP is 8 grams heavier, and the XP95 shafts made the ball spin ridiculously. Even on a 6 iron the ball would spin back. I think the combo of the high apex and high spin causes the ball to explode off the face, peak out and then fall straight down.

I do hear what you guys are saying about distance not being a big deal, but for me, it is. I play a long course with numerous 420-430 yard Par 4s, and I don't drive the ball further than 240-250 yards. That said, my 4-6 irons were my 165, 175 and 185ish clubs with the DG XPs. I couldn't hit a 4 iron 165 yards with the XP 95s. I know a lot of people play these shafts and have great success with them, but I am not one of those people.

The same day I got my irons reshafted, I shot a 79, my best round ever. Problem solved!

To anyone who has been considering it, I recommend you buy the AP2 irons. For a club that looks like a blade at address, the AP2s are very forgiving, especially the 4-6 irons!

Cathi- I called Titleist and they suggested going back to the DG XP shafts. Thank you for your reply.

You guys might want to try out some different shafts. I was at a demo day earlier and tried the AP2s with XP 115, XP 105, and XP 95 shafts and had significant distance increases. I just can't stand looking at stepped shafts, so I stick with my Project X, one of my many quirks.
