915 driver shaft and grip questions

  1. Hello,

Couple of quick questions that my local pro shops seem to disagree on.

First, I am considering shortening my 915D2 with the stiff whiteboard shaft because I am a little shorter myself and think this will help my timing. Question is if I shorten a half or full inch from the butt end, will that make the shaft more or less stiff? I've gotten multiple answers.

Second, what is the weight of the stock titleist flat cap grip that it comes standard with? Also, will a lighter grip make the balance point feel lower( ie more of the total weight toward the head) ?

Thanks for all of the help in advance!

I know if you tip a driver shaft by a half or full inch it makes it stiffer so i would say stiffen and no idea on question 2

    Hi Gary,

As you know, a stock Titleist shaft length for the driver is 45". That's a lot of shaft for a shorter guy, like myself. When I mentioned cutting my driver shaft to my club maker, he didn't think taking off an 1" at the butt end, would make a noticeable difference regarding stiffness at the tip.

This is just personal feeling, and if I sound ignorant, that's because I am regarding grip weights. I just don't think swapping out to a new grip would make a noticeable difference to the overall weight on the club or balance point. I mean, wouldn't the number of grip tape wraps make a difference as well?

First I would recommend that you try out the B1 setting for the .75 flatter angle. 1) The club will feel lighter (swing weight), as far as flex it wouldn't change much, the lighter weight may make it feel a little firmer, however adding the weight back to the head would bring it back to the original feel. I would recommend getting the black 14g weight 2)I believe the stock grip is 51g +/-. You will loose 3 sw points for every 1/2" you cut it down, the black 14g weight would offset that loss. You will gain 1sw point for every 5g weight saved. The shorter shaft will tend to launch the ball slightly lower with slightly less spin, this will also lower the angle of decent a little. With the extra weight in the head & improved contact I wouldn't be surprised if you increased your ball speed.
