  1. Hi - looking for some advice. I'm a long time fan of the 962s with the stiff shaft and have been playing them since 1999. I'm wondering if it is time to make a change and what clubs would be best for me. I'm currently about a 13 but want to get back to single digits where I was a decade ago (I know, an eternity). I do not need any more distance or loft as I tend to hit a high, long shot with lots of spin. I also hit the long irons a bit better than the short irons...the old 2 iron might be my favorite in the bag.  I love the Titleist brand and have been playing them a long time.

    What would you recommend?

    Thanks all!

craig r: Same record, same song from me. Go see a certified fitter and hit the new clubs that are coming out this month. He will set you up with the right head and shafts that will meet you individual needs. A lot of us on this site have done just that and probably will tell you what we have and like and that would not be doing you a favor. Go to the top of this page under golf clubs and read about the new irons and then go see a fitter. Saves you money in the long run and improves your game. Would recommend hitting the new AP1s and AP2s. Cheers, Chuck.

you sound like me (except for that single digit handicap!). I have been using DCI981s since 2001. I just ordered the new 716 AP1s. I agree with Chuck, go see a certified Titleist fitter. Go in with an open mind and just hit whatever clubs you are handed. Don't have a preset mind that you want a certain club as that might not be the best club for you. Good luck and keep us posted. Craig I played 962's for years until last year when I switched to Ap2's I also loved the 2 iron which was not available in Ap2. So I picked up a 913 hybrid to take its place and let me tell you you can hit more shots with the hybrid than the 2 iron .just takes a little getting used to. I did have to fiddle with the wedges though. I carried the 962 s wedg and to get the same feel around the greens I went to a 54* vokey m grind and had it bent to 52 to mach the 962 loft. I also play a vokey 58* S grind which complete the set nicely. I could never go back. The only thing I changed was I went to KBS S shafts even in the 54*wedge. Hope this helps. Todd

  5. Thanks for all of the input. I really appreciate it!

Go hit the new AP2s, and then compare them to the CBs.  I've had every model of Titleist's current lineup, and settled on a custom combo set of the CB 5 & 6 and the MB 7-PW because I like to work the ball, and I had a hard time moving the ball much (esp L to R) with the AP2s, as much as I loved the feel of them.  The AP1s are more of a distance/game improvement iron, in my opinion, but the AP2s have tour play, most notably with Spieth and Dufner, and can make all of the shots you'll need to get back under a 10hcp.

Also, don't be afraid to order a combo AP2/CB set.  Titleist has a fantastic custom program, and they can get you dialed in.

Craig, I played the same club for years. In all honesty, I moved to the MB's for a few years, and now the AP2's. All of the Titleist irons will feel very good. If you were to get fit on Trackman or another analyzing system, you'd see big differences in the spin rate between the CB and the AP2's. I hit them all a lot before making the decision. It's all in the feel you prefer. And I agree, that DCI 2-iron was a beast! FYI, I still hit it pretty long, and I hit the new 915 3-wood as far as I hit my old driver.....Happy shopping...LOL

Yes, it probably is time for a change. You need to take advantage of the latest technology in clubs.  I recommend that you locate a regional or advanced Titleist fitting center.  It's obvious that you stick with your clubs for awhile compared to a lot of golfers who change every time something new hits the street.  So, take the time and make the effort to complete a fitting outside where you can see ball flight and work with a certified fitter who will help you determine which irons and set makeup is best for you.   Once that is complete, your mind will be clear and you can focus on your swing.   With properly fit equipment and focused practice, you will be on the right path to becoming a single digit handicap player once again.   Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
