I had a club pro tell me the other day that the new 716 AP2s are more forgiving than the 714 AP1s. Is there any truth to this? I'm in the market for new irons and I've hit the 714 AP2s and I need something a little more forgiving.

    Hi!

If you're in the market for new irons, then by all means, go to a certified fitter and try out the various different clubs (irons).

I cannot speak directly to the question as to whether the new 716 AP2s are as or more forgiving than the 714 AP1s. Regardless, you are the one in the market for the irons and you will do yourself a world of good by trying out both the new 716 AP1s and the AP2s.

You may also be able to try out the 714 AP1's for comparison sake and with the assistance of a certified fitting professional and a Trackman for data, you should have enough feedback to make an informed decision.

I would not be surprised if the new AP2's feel as forgiving as the older AP1's, but again, it will come down to you and what provides you with the best results, performance, feedback AND feel.

Regardless, it would be interesting to hear your experience in the process and how you compared the various clubs/irons! D

Hi,  There is some truth to that.  We have added 25% more high density tungsten to the 716 AP2 irons, co forged it into the toe and heel so that the MOI (forgiveness) is up to the level of the 714 AP1.  The 716 AP1 irons are even more forgiving and are the longest , most forgiving iron that we have ever created.  You might want to give both a test run!

When I went for my fitting, we tried 716 AP1's and 2's. The AP1's were by far, longer and more forgiving and the ball came off the face of the AP1 like a shot and with a high trajectory. Needless to say, the AP1's are now in my bag. As mentioned before, go to an Advanced Fitter or higher. There's no shortcuts for this.

I"m a 6 handi and am going back and forth between the AP1s and AP2s. I've been as low as a 4 handicap this year. What is your experience with the scoring irons in the AP1s? I think they look decent but I don't need to hit a PW 150 yards. With the added trampoline effect on the club faces, is distance control a problem? Will the technology to launch the ball high fight an effort to hit a knock down shot?

Would you recommned the AP1s for a lower single digit handicap?

    Thanks!

I would absolutely reccommned AP2. A single digit handicapper should take advantage of the smaller head, less offset, and overall better look of the club,

I have had the opportunity to play all of the 714 and 716 irons. While the 716 AP2 is more forgiving than the 714 series, it's also longer by a few yards. Still, I don't know if it's more forgiving than the 714 AP1 irons. The 716 AP1 are definitely easier to hit than the 714 series and seem to be longer. These comments are just my honest opinion. Having said that, find out where you can get fitted and try them for yourself such that whatever you choose, it'll be a confident decision.

I've certainly noticed more forgiveness in my 716's. That being said, the 714's weren't "unforgiving" by any means and you should be able to find a great deal on them. Good luck, Keith.

I played the 714 AP2s and am now playing the 716 AP2s.  The 716 sare shockingly better than the 714s, which I didn't think was possible since I was in love with the 714s.  Hit them and you will be convinced.  Good luck!
