    Good afternoon,

I currently play with the 915D4 Driver and am hoping that this model continues on with the release of the 917 Driver. I have read that the spin rate on the D3 has dropped potentially eliminating the need for the D4 model.

Can anyone provide an update as to whether the D4 is in the plans or not for the 917 release.

    Thanks.

SO DO I! I also hope they release a D5! D4 is one of the best clubs I have hit.

I asked our Titleist Rep if they were going to come out with a 917D4 model and he didn't think Titleist was going to release a 917D4 because all of the PGA Tour Titleist staff players that were using a 915D4 that tested the 917 prototype drivers liked the 917D3 so much that they are gaming it as it spins less than the prior 915D3 model. Now there are a couple guys on tour still playing the 915D4 that have not made the switch yet. I gamed the 915D4 as well and just switched to the 917D3 and have been really impressed. Very similar ballflight as the 915D4 and like the sound and feel ever more........ The rep did say if Titleist does release a new D4 version it wouldn't be till after the first of the year...........

Here is a reply from Cathi, Titleist Club Concierge to the same question from another person back in Sept:

Hi Michael, We would encourage you to try the D3 as well as the D2 driver. In our product testing on tour (and with consumers), Tour players that were gaming the D4 have found the new 917 D3 or D2 gave them the proper spin and the performance they were looking for. All of our D4 players on the PGA tour made the switch to D3 or D2. Because the new heads provides lower spin, as well as new fitting options, you may find that you can be optimally fit into a D3.

That being said, we are always working with the Tour as well as our consumers to test and validate new equipment.

How is the 915d4? Is it a mixture of d3 and d2

Just going from what I've read on golfwrx.com a D4 model will be released roughly 6-8 months after the original 917 release. Also a rather large golf Youtubers, mentioned the D4 coming as well. If I were to guess.....and only guessing, it'd be released like the 915D4 which was 6 or so months after the initial release maybe when the intial buzz from the 917 quiets down a bit. If released it'll be a MOTO again, and marketed towards the high spin, high swing swing players like the 915 was, for that small group of guys where the D3 just doesn't cut it.

So far I like the 917 D3, but coming from the SLDR 430, I wouldn't mind messing around with a 917 D4, that's for sure.

This is 100% speculation, but maybe the SureFit CG will be closer to the face kind of like the 915 D4 removeable weight. Again, just completely guessing.

As I understand the 917, it has a surefit CG screw that allows moving the CG closer or farther away from the face of the club. In effect, you can take a 917 D3 and turn it into a D4 just by adjusting the screw. For that reason I doubt Titleist will be coming out with a 917 D4. And as they have said, the tour pro's that played the 915 D4 have been fit into the 917 D3 or D2 so there isn't the demand.
