  1. I am looking to jump into AP1 after hitting them. I love the way they feel. My question is, if I generally have problems hitting my previous 4 iron, does it make sense to pick up the 5 iron in the AP1 irons? I noticed that the loft of a 5 iron is 25 in this set, which is generally low for a 5 iron, putting it much closer to a 4 iron. Would it make more sense to go hybrid and then 6-pw, w? giving me 28*, 31*, 35*, 39*, 43*, 47* and then going with wedges? Has anyone else picked up these irons starting with 6 iron?

I've seen posts from a few that have gone the Hybrid, 6 - PW, W route, so it certainly might be an option for you. Before getting fixated on what you want to set-up to be, work with a certified Titleist fitter to see what recommendation comes from the fitting. Sometimes what we think the correct answer is turns out to be completely different after getting fit.
  3. Although the AP1 is a little strong lofted, they are incredibly easy to get off the ground. At the end of the day it's all about confidence though. If the hybrid gives you more confidence then go with that.

Have you tried hitting the 5i yet?

I just moved to Titleist and instead of getting a 4 or 5 iron with my AP1's, I went with two 816H1's. Being a new golfer this is what my fitter suggested for me.

I have a combination of both. I play the 716 AP1S 5-W and two Vokey wedges. I carry two hybrids, 915f 17.25 and 816h1 20.0*. I also have a 10.25 915D and a 917f2 15*. The new irons are stronger and much easier to hit than other irons and going to a fitter is your first step. I changed from 714 AP2s. You want to ensure that you get the right shaft + head combination. I will be replacing the 915 hybrid with the new 17* 816h1. I was fitted for all of these clubs to ensure that they were the right clubs for me and that I could hit them, with consistency. The 816 hybrids are sweet.

The 716 AP1s are truly outstanding. I had 712 AP1s and demoed 714 AP1s twice on trackman with the result being no difference each time. BUT, WHEN I TRIED THE 716 AP1S, THE RESULTS WERE OFF THE CHARTS BETTER! More distance, better trajectory control, penetrating ball flight and great hit and stop action.

I had the same issue with the old 4 iron. But, I love the new 716 5 iron.

You should really like them. ENJOY!

I have the AP1's and have the 4 + 5 iron, no fairway woods. Hit um pretty good. Good luck in your choice, Dave...
