I'm looking at purchasing a 2i and replacing my current hybrid. I have 716 AP1s and the 913h. I've never been able to hit the hybrid very well so it usually stays in the bag and I play my 4i or 3w.

    I hit my 4i well.

My question is whether I should look at a 2i such as a 712u, 716 T-MB or just add an AP1 3i to match my current clubs?

  2. I'd add the AP1 3i. Just my .02

I would say it all comes down to distance gapping, no point buying something if it goes same distance or way further than next club in your bag. Can you go to a fitting/demo day?
I have just purchased a tmb 2 and 3 iron, testing out to see distances and currently the 2 is around the same as my 5wood but lower launch and more run which is great in the wind. The 3 is very similar to my 3hyb but less spin so may replace it.
Hope you find the right club for you

I just purchased a t-mb 2 iron and I love it, it fills a gap between my 3 wood and 3 irons and I see myself using it off the tee when I need to hit a fairway, as I am still improving my consistency with my 3 wood. I have never hit hybrids well either and I believe the t-mb 2 iron club is a great alternative, it is like the old driving irons that I grew up with but more forgiving. In terms of a 2iron or 3iron I would see where your gap yardage would need to be.

I play 714 AP2's and I have a 3 iron that I love!! It works for me, I'm actually thinking of selling my hybrid I don't ever use it, plus I get better contact with my 3 iron. I've actually thought of getting a 2i as well but not really worth it for me. Nowadays its not so much how much farther I can hit it to the green but rather focusing on course management. I'd rather hit the ball clean give myself 100 yds left on a par 5.
  7. I play the 712u 2i and 3i, 716AP2 4-P. TMB's felt a little too soft, and I too am not a fan of hybrids. If you're comfortable with your 4i, I'd simply add a 3i. Maybe even experiment with it, have it bent 1.5* strong with a lighter shaft that plays at 2i length to truly get a driving iron type tool.

Is dispersion or distance control the issue with your hybrid?

I prefer the look of the 716 T-MB but the AP1 3i would fit perfectly in your set.

Both. I have 2 hybrids and im just in consistent all around. I usually just hit my 4i or 3w depending on the situation bc I hit both of them well. I was fitted for my irons. My best bet is to go back to him and see what works best.

i could not hit my 714 AP2 4 iron well so i went with a 712u 4 iron and my local club maker put a recoil 110 graphite shaft in it. loooong and straight club for me now. really like it. i would try each of them out at your local shop and see which works for you. now sure if they'll have the 712u since it's an older club but i'm happy with mine until i can get a 716 T-MB to replace it.

I am sure the AP1 will be heavier. You really need to go to Titleist fitter with Flightscope/Trackman. You want to see how high your ball flight is, how much spin you are getting, and carry distance. In the absense of doing this you are just guessing

Getting fit would be your best bet to see what you hit better...Plus you will have more precise distances

    Grindelwald,

suggest to try a 3i first bevore going to a 2i
In the end a hybrid should be easier to hit than a iron
