  1. About how long should you go getting new irons and wedges? I play regularly and hit many practice balls throughout the week. I'm usually every 4 years with irons and take really good care of my irons and wedges too by constantly cleaning them. Is that too long not enough? Thank you

I just retired my Ap 1s after 8 years. The grooves were starting to wear, or at least that's my justification for the purchase. Truth is, they could have lasted a few years longer. I was hitting them well and was dialed into the distances they gave me.

I have a 10 year old driver, that I love. But wll probably retire this spring in favor of a new 917. Sweet accuracy.

My putter is 5 or 6 years old. And I stll use a 20 year old one frequently.

I do get wedges on a more frequent basis...2-3 year cycle. They get a lot of use and grooves are essential.

But I have buddies who need to get the latest every 2 years. If it makes you more confident in your game and you can afford it, do it.

I take very good care of my clubs as well, always keeping them clean between each shot. I play about 100 rounds per year plus practice.

My irons are replaced on a two year cycle when the new Titleist irons are released. I can already see a pretty visible wear spot on the face of my 716 AP2 irons I have had since their release.

Wedges get much more wear, especially those that are used for regular practice. I usually replace these 2x per year. I have been thinking about keeping some old wedges for practice so the grooves on my gamers don't get worn down as quickly.

I usually go with Irons until they aren't working for me or I see a drastic improvement in technology. My first set I replaced after 5-6 years. My second set after 5-6 years. My third set after 5-6 years. My fourth set after 10-12 years (I bought 2 sets). My fifth set after 2 years (so sad I went away from Titleist but I returned)! My current set I've had for about a year so it won't be for a while. I guess about 5-6 years for me on when I replace my iron sets. Thanks for making me document this, I didn't realize it was about the same amount of time using my sets! LoL

Wedges I usually get a new one(s) if the grooves are not producing the action I am looking for. Usually replace my 54° every year or two. My 50° and 58° usually every couple of years. The grooves get worn, I may regroove them once or twice but that's it. My 54° is my go to so I wear that out much faster than my gap or lob.

Driver/Woods and Hybrids it just depends. I may keep the head but reshaft.

I usually regrip my clubs every year. Hope this helps.

I replace my irons with every new Titleist club release. Wedges are a whole different story. I will use as many as 4 wedge pairs a year, depending on how much I practice and play. It has been a general rule that you should think about replacing your wedges every 75 rounds.

I replace my ap1irons every other release as a rule the wedges every two yrs as well.driver fairway not so much as I don't as I hit drivers straight fairway pretty much the same as I have a slower swing.so not an issue distance gain is minimal.
  7. It is different for everyone, if you play forged and can really compress a ball, you will need to be more on a two year cycle, but you can tell by looking at the face on whether or not you need new ones! Wedges are a different animal, I used to do 2-3 times a year, but I have learned to keep a whole "backup" bag that I use just for practice which has helped the life with every club in my bag!

I Love my 714 ap2's and probably keep them for another 2-3 yrs. Partly because the wifey will probably throw a fit and more that I'm already so use to them. Obviously it takes awhile for one to really get used to new irons and frankly, I'm all about playing the best rounds with what I have. I'm not going to lie though, I always tease myself and the local golf shop and try out the newest Titleist irons, the MB's :).

I religiously clean my clubs after every shot during the round, and then again more thoroughly after every single round or practice session.

I typically play 125-150 rounds per year. I practice short game for 3-4 hours per week. I usually have no more than one full range session (50-100 balls) every couple weeks (due to nursing bad shoulder for as long as possible without surgery).

I replace my irons, every other Titleist cycle. Had AP2-712s, now 716s.
Vokeys usually every year or so. Can't imagine how Bob can top the SM6s.
    Driver: Had a 910, 913, 915 and planning on a 917, so...every Titleist driver release.
Fairways: 2-3 years. Considering replacing my 915 with 917, but may wait.
    Hybrids: 2-3 years. Had 913, now 816.
Grips: Twice a year. More often on wedges and driver (3-4xs).
    Tees: When they break ;-)
  10. Doug,
I play a ton from April through September and days I'm not playing im beating tons of balls and short game chips and pitches. With that being said you think I need to replace wedges every year. Two years may be too long? thanks
  11. Awesome guys thanks for all the insight! Greatly appreciate your advice

I play ap1s so when the two yr cycle happens I go to my titleist fitter and we compare my to the newest model to see if their is any improve for my game same with wedges drivers not putters as how do you improve on a Scotty!?! I had four year old ap1s before the 16s changed to Graf. Shafts will never change back to steel.so one example of getting fitt by titleist fitters as well.
