  1. Upgraded from the 712AP2's to the 716's at the beginning of last season. Was "fitted" at a local store that specializes in club fitting. I made the mistake of telling them what my 712's were based on a friend of mine who's a PGA professional. Current setup is 2 degrees flat and 1" long. I'm 6'1 and am curious if I need the extra 1" on my clubs or should I be closer to standard?? Also, can I take my current clubs to a Titleist Thursday and have them properly fit what I currently have???? Thanks

  2. Hey Nick,

About getting properly fitted for clubs, I can tell you that it makes an enormous difference. When I got fitted by Tim Sygerych at Westhaven Golf Club in Knoxville, TN, it was absolutely perfect. Not only did I get the clubs I needed, but he informed me of two big no-no's my currently club held. The first was my grips being two big (I was using midsize at the moment) and after measuring my hand, he said that I need a standard grip with a few wraps underneath, and it's been amazing ever since. Second, he said that I had a bad posture due to my clubs being too short, and I can feel the difference after a round.

To answer your question about Titleist Thursdays, I don't think it would be possible because from my experience, it's more like a step above demo day, so it's very similar to a club fitting. The reps figure out exactly what you need, and you then order from Titleist. Actually going to another one on the 14th of April to test the new 917 line :)

So, where you actually fitted, or did they just order based on your "fitted" specifications of someone else - even if he was a PGA? The correct fitting starts with your current set and a good fitter then works with your swing to get you to your specifications. Likely you'll need to pay for a new fitting and for reshafting if necessary. No one can say for certainty that being 6'1" means you need a longer shaft.
  4. It was a combo of each. 712's were 2 degrees upright. Was fitted in 716's 2 degrees flat and kept them longer because my previous set was longer.

The fitting day won't "fix" your clubs. BUT they can determine what your specs should be and you can go and get your clubs sorted out properly.

If the store you went to does good fittings, regardless of what your old set was, they should've gone through a proper fitting and gotten your real specs. If that's the case then you're playing proper clubs. Height is a very static measurement and doesn't take into account many factors. A taller person may not need longer clubs!
