I went and got fitted for a new set of AP2 Irons out in Oceanside CA. and they suggested 2 degrees flat. I normally take a very small divot or even nothing at all. I just got my new clubs and love the way the feel and look. I only have one round with them and I haven't spent anytime on the range yet. I consider myself a pretty good ball striker (center of the face). I notice that I was hitting a majority of the balls more towards the toe. Would 2 degrees flat cause this. I know I need some more time with them but as I stated prior I usually strike the ball in the center. Thanks in advance for your feedback! Ben

2 flat could contribute to hitting it further out towards the toe, but as you said, you have not been able to spend anytime hitting them at the range yet.

I spoke with your fitter who suggested that you get some range time in and a couple of rounds in before you make any moves.  . At the time of your fitting, your irons performed best at 2 flat, so it may be that you have tweaked your swing and are swinging a bit more upright.  Your former clubs were also flat although only 1°.  If you do decide to have them moved because the ball flight is out to the right, please have your shop call Andy or Team Titleist so that we can set it up and have it bent here for you.

I have played irons that were fitted for me and they are set up at 2 degrees flat and 3/4  long. That was the fitters decision and they area  pure perfect fit. I hit the ball in the center of the face at least 80 % of the time. I am  almost 77 years old (July) and a 5.4 index. I shot an even 70 , 2 under par, two weeks ago on my home course Abacoa Golf Club-white tees 6100 yds. I guess my clubs are good for me, so I'll keep 'em that way. You might try lengthening a club or two and see how that works for you. it's an easy thing to do yourself if you have any clubmaking knowledge at all.

I suggest that you also get the lofts/lies independently checked as well to make sure they are what they are supposed to be.

  5. Hi Cathy,

I was fitted at 2-degree flat for a set od Titleist AP1 irons at my local golf galaxy shop (Brentwood, TN). At the time of the fit i had back pain, and apparently was swinging a bit more upright. Now that my back has healed, i tend to pull my iron shots, as i tend to swing cut from the outside/in. My question is: What is the best swing path for a 2-degree flat fit? Thanks,

    Diby

THE FITTING WAS TO MAKE THE CLUBS CONFORM TO YOUR SWING. IF YOU CHANGE YOU NATURAL SWING THE CLUBS WILL NOT FIT PROPERLY.

RATHER THAN GOING THROUGH A SWING CHANGE , WHY NOT TRY TO STAND JUST A WEE BIT CLOSER TO THE BALL, THAT SHOULD HELP IN YOUR COMING OVER THE TOP OR OUTSIDE IN AS YOU DESCRIBE IT.

First correct the outside in path (easiest fix is probably standing a little further away from the ball and moving it slightly back in the stance).  The desired swing path should be slightly inside-out.  If you are coming over the top, your upper body is taking over your golf swing (Paul Wilson of Revolution Golf stated the reason people slice is they swing too hard).  The difference between a fade and a pull is the fade is square to the target but open to the swing path and the pull the clubface is square to the swing path.

Sorry to dig up an old post but I typed 2 deg flat into google and found this....

I am left handed, play half inch short/2 deg flat ap1's 714's that were fitted for me by Pelican waters club pro.

I notice the majority are high blocks ! not fades, straight, like a laser but left (Lefty)...

divots look good, just direction has left me wondering....what happened there, when they were very good solid shots...( I am 5'6")

I thought the 2 deg flat was for my height, not divot shape etc...

I'll ask him when I see him but looking for 2nd opinion...:)

    thanks in advance...:

I THINK YOU WOULD CORRECT YOUR PROBLEM BY PLAYING A CLUB SLIGHTLY -1"- LONGER THAN STANDARD , RATHER THAN SHORTER. THINK ABOUT IT-YOU HIT IT ON THE TOE, SO A LONGER CLUB WITH THE SAME SWING BRINGS YOU TOWARDS THE MIDDLE ON IMPACT.

MY IRONS ARE 2 FLAT AND 1 AND 1/2 LONG AND I HIT IT IN THE CENTER MOST OF THE TIME.. NO, I AM NOT PERFECT AND MISS OCCASIONALLY.

I Dont hit out toe.I hit out middle.

  11. Actually you may be onto something.

Went to range yesterday snd hit a bucket of balls off grass and left them dirty to see where all the contact was .

Turns out the contact marks are all about 1/2 inch left of centre towards toe.

We will check today with machine to see if extending them is what I need.

The pro ordered half inch short without checking me on their machine ...hope has going to foot the bill if needed.

Bending a club flat or upright is to allow the sole to be horizontal to the ground at impact and for direction. There are some players that are short, but due to their swing, they need an upright lie and others that need a flat lie. We would recommend contacting the pro that fit you and having him take a look at your swing.  Adjusting lie angle is to help you hit it where you expect the ball to go.

  13. I just got fitted for 2degrees flat. I’ve got 2019 t100s at 1 degree up. My WTF is 36 inches. When I was fitted I had not played in 6 months. Just wondering how I can go from 1 up to 2 flat.

I’m not sure I can answer your question, but here’s my advice. Go with standard lie angle and take note of your shot patterns over 8 - 10 rounds. Then get them bent accordingly. Most shots going right, bend upright. Most shots going left, bend flat. 1 -2 degrees. Hope this helps.

Me, I would listen to what Cath has to say. Sounds to me like good advice.
