  1. I currently am using a regular shaft, My swing speed is a 105 mph. I've been told i might need to an extra stiff shaft. How much distance am i losing still using a regular shaft?

I am not a fitting expert, but me and my buddy just got fit for the 913d3 on Friday.  From my experience i would go with a stiff shaft as opposed to an x.  My buddies swing speed was right around 95 and he was borderline between a regular and a stiff, where mine is 115 and i need an x.  Having the right shaft is a huge part of hitting it consistently.  The biggest advantage will be to lower your side spin rate with the proper shaft to hit it straight.  It would be very difficult to guess at the difference in distance this will cause but if you find the right shaft you should be able to maximize the distance as well.  I would suggest getting fit by a certified fitter.  It only takes about 30 min and is fairly cheap.  Hope this helps!

It's hard to say how much distance you could be using. Regular shafts feel like a noodle to me just holding them. I have a  105+ swing speed and I started out using stiff shaft in my 910 d3. My distance was around 290-310. I recently upgraded to extra stiff and where I see the biggest difference is accuracy. It is consistently 300+ and 5 yards right of left of my target which has been a  game changer for me. My advice would be to get fitted but swinging over 105+ myself there is no way I could play regular shaft with any confidence. Hope that helps.

If your swing speed is at 105 mph your definitely not achieving your full potential using a Regular flex shaft. You actually can go to X flex in this case because it will give you what you need plus more control on your swing with the ball. I honestly don't know how much distance you are loosing but I can assure you it's some. I hope this helps.

    Respectfully, Manny M.

Please go get fit, you can't base flex on strictly swing speed as all the posts above have tried to do.  You need to get on a launch monitor to see what your launch, spin and decent angles are. This will determine what shaft and flex to use. The problem is there is not a consistent way of measuring shafts and no standards for flex between different manufacturers and because of how some shafts work compared to others one X flex is not necessarily the same as another manufactures X flex. Some Stiff shafts actually freq out stiffer than other X flex shafts and can produce very different ball flights.

All in all go get fit.

    This time 10000000%.

Some of the posters do know what they are talking about in regards to the flex that you need.

But it all depends on what you want to do with the ball.  I just recently bought a 910f 17 degree fairway wood to add to my collection.  I was not as hung up on distance as I was with accuracy.  With the fairway wood, I was achieving a swing speed of roughly 125.  And I did not go with an X-flex.  I went with a Stiff, but a heavier shaft and it has worked out beautifully.

Get a rep to look at it.  you cannot go wrong.

Hi Colton,  If you get down to Seattle, our Advanced Fitter at TPC Snoqualmie is Luke Brosterhaus and he would be our first recommendation - his number is: (425) 936.6001.

I am checking with our local rep to see if there is someplace closer that he recomends and will let you know as soon as I hear from him.

Hi Colton,  Just heard back from our rep in your area and Skagit Valley seems to be in between areas.  He suggested not only TPC Snoqualmie, but maybe going up to Puetz Golf in Seattle. They are planning on conducting a fitting day on December 8th - give them a call to make sure you can get an appointment before you make the trip.  They do have a trackman as well as a foresight launch monitor and the fitter there is Nelson Knight - (206) 362.2272

  11. Okay thank you so much for all of your help! Would you guys recommend Pro Golf Discount there is one located in Bellingham that i've been to before and offer a club fitting i think.

  12. I have to agree with everyone on here. Get fit. THey then can see spin rate PTR% and angle of attack.. all of which is affected by the swing and shaft. To me the shaft is the most important part of the club. Wrong shaft and then I am changing my swing to adjust to the shaft. MISTAKE. Get fit... ASAP
