  1.       Hey TT I was just wondering if I would have better success with a vokey pw vs. my 712 mb pw on half and 3/4 shots. Also would I be fine with the stock shaft as my irons and 54 vokey have project x 6.0. I hit my pw well but just have trouble with those in between distances. Thanks

    William,

Many players have made this change to a Vokey replacing their current PW.  This is a good alternative for players looking for a different feel or more spin.  If you have the Project X 6.0 in your irons and other wedge, I would recommend staying with that same shaft, so you have a more consistent feel through your set.

Keep in mind that what works for me is a PW of 35.25" or 35.5".  I also have a pretty deadly short game (but really need to putt better).

A set wedge and the Vokey of the same loft differ about 5-10 yards.   I had an Eye 2 PW (48.5) and briefly tried the 48-06 (had it set to 49*) and I hit the latter about 95 yards and the former a little over 100 yards.  The Vokey stops the ball a little better.  I didn't really care for the 48-06 at the time and wasn't quite used to hitting a 35.75" wedge.

I honestly think the 50-08 is much better vs the 48-06.  I have mine (SM c-c) bent to 49* and the shaft shortened to 35.25".  The swingweight is approx 1/2 point more than the stock 48-06.   I have had this wedge since last summer and had the loft set to 51* when I was playing the Eye 2s; I bent it to 49* when I switched to AP1s.  My 50 is basically my go to wedge between 30-90 yards and it sticks the green better than my PW.

A little trick on the inbetween shots.  Assume you hit a PW about 110 yards on a full shot.   For every 1/2" you choke down, you shave distance by 10 yards on a full swing.  That would ~90 yards if you choke all the way down.  I would assume your full swing pitch is about 80 yards - you can work it down to 60 on a full choke.  When you do half swings, you decrease yardage by 5 yards for every 1/2" you choke down.  I get 50 with a half swing on the AP1 PW.   My half swing pitch on the 50-08 is 40 yards.  When you get to the 1/4 swing shots, it is 2.5 yards for every 1/2" of choke.   I read a tip from Dave Pelz on distance control quite some time ago.  It also works with your other irons, hybrids and fairways.

Cameron is correct - shafts should all match.

  4. Would you also the same shaft in a 60°?
