I know that this may sound really stupid, however, when I told a bunch of my buddies that I was going to get fit for a set of clubs, one of them asked if there was any difference in the type of shoe that you wear. For example, I wear a spike-less shoes most of the time, but when conditions are damp, or if the course was wet from a rain the day before, I will wear soft spikes shoes which are taller than the spike-less because of the heel. I didn't think that it would make a difference, but he insisted that it would to some degree. Your thoughts....

It would seem to make sense.  Considering that being off by a half inch, maybe the difference in your height in different shoes, could mean hitting the sweet spot and catching it thin.  It sounds a bit nit-picky but I'll buy it.

    To me it does.

If you haven't noticed a difference then it doesn't.

I play in my Dryjoys Tour most of the time but just picked up a pair of M-Project spiked shoes.  There is a bit of difference in height of the shoes as the M-Project are a lower profile.  I too was wondering how this will affect my setup to the ball and my swing arc.

I haven't had a chance to hit any balls with my M-Projects yet so don't have a comparison.  Maybe someone from Titleist/FootJoy can chime in here...

I don't know for a fact if shoes will make a difference or not since I've never had a formal fitting.  However, I would think that where the fitting was taking place might be a factor.  If the fitting is outdoors and on grass, I would feel that the softness of the grass would offset the thickness of the shoes and the fitting should be pretty consistent.  If the fitting is indoors and on a mat that would be a harder surface, the varying heights of the shoes might come into play more.    That being said, the thought does raise a question as to the swing, especially with the putter.  If I practice my putting in my living room and I wear flip flops, or have no shoes on, would my swing path etc. be different than on a green with softspike golf shoes?

That would be the one thing I agree with, outdoor fitting with spikeless vs indoor with regular golf shoes. My fitting is going to be indoors, but I will take both pairs of shoes with me, but still, that would not simulate the softness of grass with spikeless shoes.

    Walt,

Where were you planning on getting fit? Is it indoor or outdoor? Either way, I'd take both pairs of shoes with you to your fitting. Most people won't notice any difference(s) at all.

This would be at an indoor fitting session and what you said about taking both pairs of shoes with me was the same thing I was going to do. Again, it still kind of sounds stupid to me about the difference in height, but on the other hand it does makes some sense to me. I will let everyone know after my fitting session is over!

Walt, that doesn't sound stupid. It makes a lot of sense, actually. No questions are stupid on here. If someone is unfamiliar with fittings, etc., that's what we're here for, so ask away! Please do let us know how things go!
