  1. Just got new AP2 irons and LOVE the look and feel but I am like 15 yards short on EVERYTHING!!! It looks like I am catching it on the toe ALOT and coming over it a little (swing wise)... I have a very busy work schdule, new baby boy and little time to practice... my problem is that I never got fitted for these, took them right out of the box... should I get them fitted to make sure they are bent properly? WIll that make enough of a differance? or should I go more forgiving and get some AP1's?

When your irons are fit properly, you get a clean hit and it feels effortless.

If they don't fit properly, a straight shot feels a bit on the chunky side.

Too stiff of a shaft loses distance (although you may hit it a bit more straight).  Too flexible of a shaft gives a high ball flight with little or no roll.

  3. Effortless? No. When you have a stiff shaft, you don't play effortless (whatever that means) - you have to hit a tiny bit after all....

Also to claim you are straighter with stiff shafts is wrong to in reality. When you have very stiff irons (see previous paragraph) you tend to hit harder. As opposed when you have a flexible shaft, you tend to hit 'softer/slower' without being so much shorter even.

Taking that into consideration, it's not true to say: stiffer and you are straighter. I heard this often enough but it's just false in reality.

It's rather when you naturally are a hard hitter, you want stiff, and when you are a soft/slow hitter, you want more flexible clubs. And as said, the soft/slow hitter does NOT want stiffer shafts AT ALL. They just don't suit him.

  4. Also based on this logic, for maximum length you just use a very flexible shaft. Wrong again obviously.

So there is a suitable flex for each player and anything what is not optimal, will hurt you lengthwise and straight-wise.

Less than 10% of golfers have their best fit with off the rack  clubs.

If the lie angle is too much, the heel can interact more with turf and give you more open and toe contact.  You cna get checked for lie.  Getting fit involves a shaft fitting but it is probably prohibitively expensive to replace the stock shafts with even another stock shaft.  If the lie is off, this will make a difference.

Lie angle adjustment is $5 per club

When you can find some free time...

I'd highly suggest to get a hold of your local Titleist rep and schedule a fitting. You shouldn't have to take your clubs with you. They should have the heads/shafts, etc., there with them. They'll be able to fit you into the perfect set of irons, whether it be the AP2's, AP1's, CB's, MB's...they'll be able to dial in the right shaft for you so you can have the right flex, characteristics, the way you load it/release it...the length, loft, lie...grip/grip size...

The difference between off the wall irons and fitted irons will be HUGE difference for you. There's not one pro, scratch golfer, etc., who hasn't been fitted for their clubs. From the driver to the putter, it's a big deal. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask away.

Remember also that the AP2's are probably 2* weaker lofts than that of your previous irons.  That could be a huge difference. In this day and age, I never go with a club straight off the rack anymore .... it is a MUST to get fitted for everything ... loft, lie, shaft, etc.  Do you think the guys on tour do that??  That's why the Tour Vans follow them around to every event.  To make slight adjustments to their equipment and be at their becking call!   We as amateurs and hacks don't have that luxury ... so take advantage of what the local golf stores or clubs give you.  GET FITTED!
