My driver SS is around 92-94 mph. My hdcp at present is around 10. Been as low as 8 two years ago. I am 59 years young. I typically play regular flex shafts. I have a fairly smooth transition and hit the ball very straight most of the time, though a slight draw is my perfect flight, which I can groove every now and then. A little fade can sometimes creep in when my swing is off a tick. Rarely do I ever slice or hook. Distance is my weak point. Good drives only seem to be 220-235. That wasn't the case before moving to Titleist drivers back in 2010. Yes, I am a few years older with some nagging injuries and recent surgeries, but 230-250 was more the norm with my last non-Titleist driver. I am all Titleist now, from Scotty, Vokeys, AP2s, up through driver, so I need to find something that will give me a bit more distance off the tee. 10-15 yards, that's all I'm hoping for. I think with a better shaft for me and a more forgiving 915 head attached to it, I can accomplish that with my present swing. All it has to do is roll a few more yards after landing and I'd be content.
I have played the 910D2, then the 913D2 and am about to move over to the 915D2. I did not really get too excited about the Diamana Khali in my 910 and switched it out to (without being fit for) a Proforce VTS Silver. I was originally fit for the 910 at GG and they had me in an ahina 70 stiff. (They only had one Khali on the rack and 4 or 5 ahinas.) Didn't believe the stiff ahina was right, so went with my gut and bought the Khali off the rack in reg flex. It wasn't a bad shaft, but I felt I could get more out of the VTS. It seemed better, but still not great for me. Too much spin, I thought. Fell out of the sky, hit the ground and stayed there. Very little roll out. I then got a great deal on a 913 D2 with a stiff Diamana Blueboard in it at my pro shop. I tried it, but I think the stiff flex was too much for me, so put the VTS in it and have played it about 125 rounds. Still don't like the flight. Now, I want to get fit for the 915, but no one in the area has any of the Aldila shafts mentioned above to try out in regular flex. I realize these are not stock, off the rack 915 offerings, but I know they are available in reg flex as standard with no upcharge from Titleist. I have read so much great stuff regarding the 2015 Rogue offerings and really want to try them out in a 915 D2 head. The Silver 60 would likely give be the ballflight I am looking for, but I am not sure a lower launching shaft is playable for me. So the Black 60 and 70 also interest me very much. How do I try them in regular flex when none of the local fitters have them to try?
Frankly, I am not a big fan of hitting indoors and having a computer tell me how I hit it. It's nice to know spin, launch angle, angle of attack, etc., but for me seeing the flight in real life and reacting to it on the next one makes all the difference to my confidence with any driver/club. One is theoretical, the other is factual. So, wherever I get fit, getting the opportunity to do so outside on a range with balls I regularly play (or at least full-distance, not limited-flight balls) is what is important to me. GG doesn't cut it.
Scott from Stony Hill (now called Performance Clubworks) in Brookfield CT would be my first choice for a fitter, or Chris Cote Golf, but neither have the three Rogues in regular to demo. How do I go about testing them?
