    More good news, Team Titleist!

We've just heard that Pro V1x loyalist Hunter Mahan will be dropping by the
Titleist Performance Institute in Oceanside, Calif., early next week - and
he will be answering a few questions submitted from Team Titleist members.
(Titleist Brand Ambassador Ben Crane will be there, too. Ask him a question
    by clicking here).

Hunter is coming off an impressive 2010 season that featured a pair of
comeback victories. He won the Waste Management Phoenix Open with a
final-round bogey-free 6-under 65, rolling in his Pro V1x golf ball for four
birdies and an eagle, after starting the round four shots back of the
leaders. He closed the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational with a 6-under 64, the
lowest finish by a winner in the 12-year history of the tournament, to come
back from three shots to earn his third PGA Tour victory.

(Click here to see how Hunter marks his Titleist).

Hunter will be selecting his favorite questions to answer, so reply to this
post with your best question and check back next week to see if yours was
    picked. Thanks!

Best of luck for the upcoming year.

My question:  What is the significance of the marking on your ball.  Is it an inverted V or a lucky symbol?

    Deno,

That inverted "V" symbol is the Greek letter "L" [Lambda (uppercase Λ, lowercase λ; Greek: Λάμβδα or Λάμδα)]. The Spartans used the red Greek capital letter lambda (Λ) displayed on their shields as an identification as the people of Lacedaemonia (Λακεδαιμωνία), which in historical times, was the proper name of the Spartan state as used by Thucydides in his histories. The citizen of Lacedaemonia was called Lacedaemon.

I believe Hunter has used this symbol since the movie 300 came out.

Congrats on a Great 2010 season. I enjoyed watching you and your fellow pro's and look forward to 2011 season. My question is about ball selection. A lot of the discussion on this Web site is about amateurs choosing the right golf ball for their games. Maybe some advice from a pro such as yourself will better help us with this understanding.

Good luck on your season look forward to watching you.

Can you tell us how the New ProV1x plays for you compared to the last ProV1x version?  Thanks for your consideration, and good luck this season!

Hunter, Congrats on your season....Question regarding the new ball. What are the major differences you have found with the New ProV1? Have you had to make any modifications to your game?

    Hunter,

How did playing at such an elite college, Oklahoma State, help your game grow and become really strong?  Also, how would you go about getting yourself noticed by colleges for golf?

    Good luck this year!!!!

    Thanks,

    Ben

    Hi Hunter,

Thanks for taking time to answer some questions from all of us.  My question is what is the hardest part about being on tour and what do you do to focus and compete every week?  As much as all of us dream about being a PGA Tour player, I am sure it has it's ups and downs like any career.  Good luck this year!!!

    Steve

    Hunter,

Congratulations on what has already been a terrific career and in advance for future triumphs, as I am sure there are more to come.  Thank you for representing our country with such grace and dignity, your display of emotion shared your patriotism and pride with us all, and did nothing but gain our respect.  My question for you is in regards to your golf swing.  Since working with Sean Foley, you have been able to become one of the better ball strikers on tour.  Your swing is now on 1 plane with a lot of shift to your left side at impact.  If you could share one feeling of change with the average amateur, what would it be?

    Best,

    Chris

My question is a mental one.  What do you do before a particularly important round?

Do you still follow the Pokes sporting events or ever return to attend them?  Do you ever get out to play at Karsten Creek ?

    Hi Hunter,

How have the new grooves changed your course management, as we've heard and read that a lot of tour pro's will just rip the ball off the tee and not worry if it lands in the rough ?

                                                          Thanks for your time,

                                                                                        Johnny W.

    Hunter,

You have earned yourself the reputation as a great all around driver of the golf ball with both good distance and great accuracy.  What is your key to consistency with your driving?  Do you have a favorite drill or tip to help with driver consistency?

    Have a great season!

Great season last year Hunter and awesome job at the Ryder Cup, keep up the great golf this year! My question is how do you keep such a great tempo under so much pressure? It just looks effortless when you swing and I would like to know your drills you work on to train yourself to stay in such smooth tempo. Thanks Hunter, good luck!

    Hunter,

Congrats on a great 2010, and best of luck for 2011.  Since you were at the top of the golf world, playing on the Ryder Cup team, and playing well in the majors last year, what are your short and long term goals for the 2011 season?  Focusing more on the majors?  Presidents Cup Team? or weekly tour stops?

    Patrick

  21. Hey Hunter,

Congratulations for 2010. My question is, how do you believe College Golf prepared you for life on the tour? And if you would recommend it to aspiring golfers like myself.

    All the best for 2011.
