I have played from the crack of dawn to 30 minutes after sunset. Over the years my bio rhythm best for golf is between 10 AM to 2 PM. Earlier is worst and later is OK. I play with a group (two to three foursomes) two times a week and during mid week we usually tee off around 12:30 PM but on Saturday they tee off at 8:30 AM. I have tried to get them to push the time back an hour but received all kinds of good natured grief from most of the players. The reason for the early tee time was that it gives you the rest of the day to do other things, you beat the heat and the majority likes the earlier tee time. I have called some of these early risers in the afternoon after a round of golf and their wives answer, " Joe is sleeping on the couch. Do you want me to wake him?" I am a night owl and usually do not go to sleep until around 11 PM to 12 AM. These early risers go to bed at 9 PM! Things I encounter with the early tee time is heavy dew on the fairways and greens which makes ball striking similar to playing in the rain. It may be cooler but the humidity is at it's peak (I live in the South)and the ball does not go as far in the heavy air nor does it roll as far. The heat index at times can be brutal. Most of us walk and you better have good water proof shoes when you play early. Who likes to putt on wet greens when you get a rooster tail kicked up by the ball ? Even the sand in the bunkers have a hard crust on top which softens up later in the day. I guess I am just venting but would like to hear from others when is their favorite times to play and why.
