When I first started playing golf I wanted to wear the hats that the pro's wear on tour. The hats usually had the logo of the equipment I used and wanted to proudly display that preference. But through the years it has dawned on me that the pros hats, shirts,bags, etc. are given to them free and or even paid to advertise that manufactures product. As an amateur golfer I have quit paying for hats that advertise for free any given manufactures equipment unless I am given that hat at no cost. When you buy a club or a set of clubs it seems that a free hat thrown in would be a nice gesture from the manufacture to the customer. I do buy hats that advertise my golf club. Just thinking out loud here. Are there any others that feel this way ?

That would be cool like when I bought my set of irons last year (AP1's).  But I'm picky about hats (because of fit on my big head) so it would depend on what they gave out on whether I'd actually wear it.

Obviously I would love to get a free hat for any reason, but I only buy and wear things from brands I support.  I love my collection of Titleist hats because I love golf and this company.  If other golf companies gave me a free hat I would probably give it away to my friends that support those companies.

They are paid to wear them and some get Millions of dollars for wearing them. That is with all sports not just golf. Next time you watch a Nascar race look at the race cars. They are covered with logo's and every logo on there pays to be on there.

Good point, I should clarify.  I only buy Titleist clubs so if MFG's gave away hats mine would still be Titleist.  :-)

My point exactly. Professionals get paid to display a manufacturer's logo. Amateurs pay to display the logos. Does not make sense to me that you pay money to display a manufactures logo. They should be paying you or give the hat to you for buying their equipment.

I've seen many things given out by Titleist representatives at tournaments, demo days, product launches etc. They are as generous as any manufacturer and have outstanding customer service. A professional player generates exposure for the company that is seen by hundreds to millions of people depending on the level of the player. A company makes quality accessories like hats etc. based on consumer demand and to make a profit. No profit will soon equal the end of the company whose equipment you love so much. The ultimate freedom you have is whether to purchase items because you appreciate the quality and take pride in that company's products. Should your favorite sports team give you money or merchandise for showing up at a game? NO!

you have a realy good point cause i have all the tileist hats that the pros wear and know reading this i dunno if i ever will cause u have a very good point but yes a hat is the least thing they could give us when we pay the price for are clubs no matter what the brand is

• I'm with you!  It makes no sense to be a walking billboard unless you are compensated for it.  But look at our bags, shirts, pants, sweatshirts, etc.  They all have polo ponies, or swooshes.  As long as we, the consumer, continue to buy the products why should things change?

I understand your point but I have to agree with the previous post, everything has a logo. Brands are recognizable and I don't mind spending some cash for a Titleist hat that I want. I'm choosing to wear it and want to proudly show my love of the game and Titleist. Companies are out to make a money. Titleist is generous when they can be, as generous as most, but if they can make money selling items with their logo theynaremgoing to do it. Personally I wish they sold more items with their logo!

I understand that most everything we wear to play golf has a logo on it whether it be a swoosh, three stripes, dog bone, etc. When I buy golf clothing I look for stuff that looks like it would be comfortable, color I like, durability and cost to just mention a few things. I imagine most golfers feel the same way. If it happens to have your favorite manufactures logo on it, just icing on the cake. I mentioned hats as they are an item that are probably the cheapest part of a golfers ensemble. I usually wear a hat with a color to coordinate with my golf ensemble that I wear on any given day. I realize that a company is out to make a profit but that is not the point. On an occasion I have seen manufactures give away items as a bonus for buying their product, e.g., hats, gloves, umbrellas, cameras, etc. As I stated in my topic, I think it would be nice if the golf company that you buy clubs from would throw in a free hat for you to wear and give their company free advertisement instead of the consumer buying the hat and advertise for the company after buying clubs $$$. A hat is the least costly item to wear and has the greatest potential for advertising a product in my opinion.I'm not picking on Titleist as I play clubs from several different companies. In today's economy any perks a consumer can get is greatly appreciated. That is all.

You really can't say you are only going to use a "Brand Name" item if its free. Does that mean you will only drive a Ford F150 if they give you a free truck ... No, that would be silly .....

GeorgeGolf golf shirts($12) are very good shirts and do not have a logo, certainly they are not as good as the logo'd $80 shirts, but in value the price difference should be more like $6 not $68

So when buying a logo'd golf shirt, you are not giving free advertising.......you are paying to advertise

And there is nothing wrong with that, they sell the shirt to make money, and if you want a particular logo on a shirt for whatever reason (looks good, you like the company, ........) then you have to pay for it.

And yes more stuff Titleist is a good thing, or even TT logo.

Thats not quite the same thing.

Ford makes the truck, like Titleist makes clubs and balls. And for both you pay more for higher quality.

To make the truck example work, suppose you wear RayBan sunglasses, would you pay an extra $20k for a F-150 with RayBan plastered all over the truck.
