Any ideas on how best to play shots from wet sand in green side bunkers?

what usually works for me is to play the same set up as normal, but instead of hitting a few inches behind the ball, I try to hit the sand about an inch behind the ball.

On wet sand, I open up the club face and just skim the sand under the ball because the sand is harder!!!!!  Thus I get nice spin and control on the ball!!

If the wet sand is compacted, play it like a normal chip or pitch - ball first. If the sand is wet but still fluffy - a normal bunker shot may work but I'd grab a club with a little less bounce just in case.

Hit it like a shot off the hard pan.  Do not try to blast it....

Hey Kevin Y. i think it depends on the distance and what you are trying to do in the sand. I would say if your 10-15 away from the hole then use a lofted club, 58-60 and open it up and swing about a inch behind the ball, with a normal swing plane. On the other hand if you have some distance to cover 25-30 yards, i have seen where pitching wedge helps out with the ball more postponed to the front of your stance, as you set up have the ball inside the left foot and hit behind the ball to scoop it out of the wet sand, ensure to swing through the wet sand as it may get help up if you just try to push it through. Choke down a bit on the PW and swing through, i have used that plenty of times in my playings in germany where is rains every other day it seems, good luck.

I agree with Jeff, there could be a lot of technical questions to narrow in what you are looking for. Most success should come from playing the ball about an inch or so behind, but of course this can vary depending on what your club selection is and how far the ball needs to go.
