Field Notes: Inside the Evian Championship

The fifth and final major of the 2016 LPGA season is underway as the LPGA's best vie for the Evian Championship in Evian-les-Bains, France. The conditions are cool and wet on the banks of Lake Geneva but that hasn't dampened the scoring as we reach the halfway point.

One player who finds herself in prime position after two days of action is Titleist golf ball loyalist Shanshan Feng (Pro V1x). Feng fired a 4-under-par 67 on Friday to complement a sizzling 7-under-par 64 in the opening round.

“I feel pretty happy about my score," said Feng, who currently sits two shots off the lead at 11-under. "I made two birdies on the final three holes so it was nice to finish strong. I think I’m more experienced, maybe mentally I’m more mature. That’s what ’s really needed in major championships because there’s a lot of pressure.”

Another veteran who has risen to the front page of the Evian leaderboard is Feng's fellow Titleist golf ball loyalist Angela Stanford (Pro V1), who sits alone in 5th place (9-under) after her 65-68 start. Stanford credited her patience as a key to her strong opening play but added that she has to remain aggressive throughout the weekend.

“I’ve been out here 16 years now and this tour is as competitive as I’ve ever seen," Stanford said. "And that’s good. It’s fun. But you have to take your chances when you get them because nobody out here is going to back down.”

There's a major crown at stake and the LPGA's best are up for the challenge. Get ready for an exciting conclusion this weekend.

Good luck to all of #TeamTitleist!
