For this spring I want to perfect my short game. I will be working on my half swing shots and my feel around the greens. Need to learn to pitch and run shots instead of only lobes and flops. Need to take more practice swings and visualize the shots.

I agree with you, I really need to improve my short game as well.  I always want to be the superstar and flop it up on the greens, but that doesn't work to well.  I hope to perfect my short game as well, and know that the ProV1x will help me a ton!

I want to be more consistent with my shots into the green and have more GIRs.  Oh, and playing more golf would help that.

I set a goal last year that I came very close to.  No 5's on the scorecard.  Almost did it on two separate occasions.

And as always play as much as I can and try to meet up with some of my online friends for a round or two.

    • Break 90, my low score is 91, if only I could eliminate the blow-up hole....
    • Lower hcp to below 20, it's 22.3 now
    • Make putting part of my practices
    • Work on ball striking
    • Play at least twice a month

    I'm with Daniel R...

    Here's mine:

    • Break 90 consistently, my low score is 86
    • Lower average on My Game to under 20.  2012 was 24
    • Improve course management (think a shot ahead of my current one)
    • Play at least twice a month (which with a second child coming might get tricky!!)

My goal this year is to have fun. I was awaiting a knee replacement last year and playing was painful. I don't get to practice a lot because of my knee and back.. Playing golf is all about having fun and a few laughs with friends when you play. So stay happy everyone

Putting, Short Game.  Can't tell you how many stokes I've given away wih the putter.  I can have a stellar sub par round in the works, only to derail with a sudden case of the yips and three putts.  It kills me.  While my short game has improved considerably, it still needs some work.

Since I am a true realist in respect to my golf game and with the physical handicaps taken into consideration; my goals for the 2013 golf season here in upstate NY are simple: work hard on improving my short game pitches and chips, make more putts from inside 10 ft., practice as much as possible and most of all, enjoy every chance to get on the golf course! I am flying out to Oceanside, CA again to visit with my son who's in the Marine Corp stationed @ Camp Pendleton. I'm taking my all Titleist Bag with me so I can get some early season practice in @ the base course practice facility while I'm out there. I hope to play a few area courses while I'm there as well. When I was out there the previous 2 times, I was lucky enough to play Torre Pines N & S courses and several others in the Fallbrook/Temecula area. I came back home to NY in mid season form when most golfers around here are only getting out for the 1st time. My wish would be to drop another 3 handicap points from my current 7 handicap by reaching my goals. I'd like to send a special "Hello" to all the staff and fitters @ TPI, Oceanside!

Aah, now here is something that I have a bit more experience in.

As a father of 3, I can't stress enough to not forget what you enjoy. Maintain a balance between home life, professional life and your life. To leave out any one of those, the others will suffer. Congratulations, and have fun.

My main goal is to keep my ball out of the trees and water off the tee. I want to play at least once a week and improve my chipping and putting. Hopefully by doing all this I can stay below 90 on a consistent basis.

Break 80 on a regulation course

Sub-par on an executive course (best is +1).

Get more consistent with the 21 hybrid and the 6 iron.  I do a choke shot on the 19F and the 27H for these distances.

Get more deadly at bunker shots and putts <10 ft.  OK but need to be better.

    Increase the shot arsenal.

    Great thread, guys.

This year, my goal is a little experiment when it comes to practicing. As we all know, short game is typically the key to lower scores. So, my plan is to focus a large majority (95%) of my practice time - whether it is at the range or on the course - on shots 100 yards and in.

I track all of my stats on My Game, so I'm really hoping to see the short game stats improve.

I'm hoping the experiment is a success... and I also think it would be interesting to see how this would work for more players.

So who's with me? We can track our progress, share some tips and keep each other on track...

I need to improve my drives off the tee, I know that when I get my new 913d2 I won't have to worry about that though. And also I need to play more rounds of golf this year.

I'm in Mike. I post on my game as well and it's always encouraging when you get the invest truth after posting. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Mike,

You make a great point, "scoring is all about short game". The phrase seems cliché at this point, but it's supported by more than just statistics.

If you recall Mike, we were reminded of the importance of scoring shots over and over again by our tour professionals and golf ball fitting team last year during our stops on tour and at our television shoots.

Zach Johnson particularly sticks in my head, as he told us that he begins testing and fitting a new golf ball on and around the green. Once Zach feels comfortable, he moves back to the fairway and eventually the tee. He went on to say that if his Pro V1x feels good around the green, Zach will adjust his irons/driver shaft and head to fit his golf ball.

Therefore, I'm also going to focus my efforts on my scoring shots:

    • Work on my putting alignment at home in my living room
    • strengthen my lower body stability and core rotation in the gym during the week
    • and of course track results all on My Game.
First though, I'm going to snowboard in all the snow that Winter Storm Nemo dumps on us up here in New England.
Let's make some birdies in 2013!

It's good to read that many of you are planning to focus more on the short game. You WILL save strokes! Still, perfect practice yields perfect results. To that end, I STRONGLY recommend you buy, Dave Pelz's "Short Game Bible". It's the best $30 I've ever spent on golf.

Let me add, for chip shots around the green, might I suggest you build a "base chipping stroke" with a 7 iron?  Then, hit chips with a 5 iron and note how far it rolls out. Then, do the same with a 6 iron down to your lob wedge. This will give you a base line for how far your chips can be expected to roll out with each club. You can then choose how to play the chip depending on the speed, the grain and slope of your chip. I was taught this by a former tour caddie and it is VERY useful.

My seasons goal is to consistently break 80..........I have spent more time on my game from 100 yards and in than ever before.

Hopefully, with the help of the new Pro V line, I will see it pay off on the course.

  36. i have been consistently hitting in the 70's even during the tough jersey winter.  my main goal is to shooting par and to play in a couple of amateur tournaments this year, and hopefully put my face on titleist

The mental game is very important to improve upon this season.  Having the Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) on every shot no matter how bad or how good.  Giving my playing partners the ability to feed off of my PMA and enjoy every minute on the course and while practicing.  Visualize the shot, know you can hit the shot, and execute.

P.S. It also helps to have a Pro V in the bag.
