Video: When the White Boxes First Appear
Posted: November 12, 2010
What's been up the sleeves of Titleist Golf Ball R&D fitting experts Fordie Pitts and Jeff Beyers lately?
Since the seeding process for the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x protoytpe golf balls began a few weeks ago at the PGA Tour's McGladrey Classic at Sea Island (Ga.) Golf Club, Fordie and Jeff have only been carrying those white boxes filled with the new golf balls under their arms.
"I know there's something special in there," says Pro V1x loyalist Luke Donald. "They've got some sort of little secret hidden away."
Of course, the secret is out: A few weeks ago, Pro V1 loyalist Padraig Harrington put the new Titleist Pro V1 prototype golf ball in play for the first time at the Asian Tour's Iskandar Johor Open in Malaysia and won by three shots.
In his first two events playing the new Pro V1 golf ball prototype on the PGA Tour, Titleist Brand Ambassador Bo Van Pelt
recorded seven rounds
in the 60s, finishing tied for second at the Frys.com Open and tied for sixth at the McGladrey Classic.
A couple weeks ago at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open, 22 players in the field had a new Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x prototype in play, including runner-up Cameron Percy (Pro V1) and Titleist Brand Ambassador Webb Simpson (Pro V1x), who tied for fourth.
And at this week's Children's Miracle Network Classic at Walt Disney World, 24 players in the field are using the new prototypes. (In total, 89 players are trusting Titleist golf balls this week, more than six times the nearest competitor with 14.)
Check out the video below to hear more from a few Titleist Brand Ambassadors and golf ball loyalists on what it's like to catch that first glimpse of white boxes and new Titleist prototype golf balls out on the range.
