An action-packed 2010 competitive golf season concluded this month with Titleist once again as the #1 ball in golf.

Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls were played by more players and totaled more victories on every worldwide professional tour in 2010 than any other competing golf ball.

In total, 19,904 players trusted Titleist golf balls, nearly six times the nearest competitor with 3,446 and more than all other competitors combined.

Titleist was also the overwhelming favorite at every one of golf's major amateur championships - including this summer's U.S. Amateur Championship, where 242 players put their trust in Titleist golf balls, more than eight times the nearest competitor with 28.

To be sure, it was also a year full of top honors for Titleist Brand Ambassadors and golf ball loyalists:

Pro V1x loyalist Lee Westwood ended 2010 at No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, punctuating his season with an eight-shot victory at the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City in South Africa earlier this month. He chipped in from almost 40 yards for birdie on the final hole.

"(Being No. 1 is) about consistency and performing well all the time at the highest level," Westwood, 37, said. He finished third-second-first in his final three tournaments of the year following his return to competition from a calf injury that kept him out of the PGA Championship.

Westwood officially became No. 1 on Oct. 31, just a few weeks after helping Europe win the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in Wales. He also won the FedEx St. Jude Classic in June.

• Pro V1 loyalist Jiyai Shin finished the season at No. 1 the Rolex World Rankings after a season-long tug-of-war for the top spot with several LPGA stars.

Shin, 22, dropped from the No. 1 position a couple times during the season, once because of an emergency appendectomy during the LPGA State Farm Classic in June, but returned to the peak with a late-season run that included a victory at the Mizuno Classic in November.

"I feel very honored to finish the season No. 1. I'm already looking forward to the 2011 season and I will work hard during the off-season to maintain the top position," Shin said. "It will be great motivation for me."

Geoff Ogilvy kicked off 2010 with a victory at the PGA Tour's season-opening SBS Championship, his first event after becoming a Titleist Brand Ambassador. It was the first of 149 victories during the year for Titleist golf ball players across the the worldwide professional tours in 2010, nearly six times the nearest competitor with 25.

On the PGA Tour, Titleist golf ball players won 24 tournaments, more than three times the nearest competitor with seven.

Ogilvy, also a winner at this year's Australian Open, has used a Pro V1 golf ball in all of his nine international victories, which includes seven PGA Tour wins and the 2006 U.S. Open Championship.

• Nineteen-year-old Titleist Brand Ambassador S.Y. Noh of South Korea became the youngest player to win the Asian Tour's Order of Merit. Noh won the European Tour's Maybank Malaysian Open in March, making a dramatic birdie on the 72nd hole to beat countryman, idol and Pro V1 loyalist K.J. Choi by one shot. Noh went on to finish 40th in the U.S. Open and 28th in the PGA Championship, working his way to No. 64 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Titleist Brand Ambassador Matteo Manassero was named the European Tour Rookie of the Year this month after finishing 31st in the 2010 Race to Dubai rankings. Manassero became the youngest winner ever on the European Tour with a four-shot victory at the Castello Masters in October, eclipsing the previous record (18 years, 213 days) by over a year. With the victory, Manassero also became the European Tour's youngest full-time member, surpassing Seve Ballesteros' record by 12 days.

In April, he finished tied for 36th at the Masters after becoming the youngest player to ever make the cut.

Titleist Brand Ambassador Ross Fisher won the Irish Open in August to become the first player to find the winner's circle using the new Titleist 910 driver, just a few weeks after the driver was introduced on the European Tour.

Fisher, who currently plays a 910D3 8.5 model with a Project X 7A3 shaft (tipped 2'') and his SureFit Tour (SFT) hosel in the C•1 setting (-.75 less loft, -.75 flat), edged Pro V1x loyalist Padraig Harrington by two shots.

Fifteen more players have since earned victories across the worldwide professional tours with the new 910 in their bag, the most recent victory coming from Titleist Brand Ambassador Geoff Ogilvy just less than two weeks ago at the Australian Open.

Ogilvy plays a Titleist 910D3 8.5 with an Aldila RIP 80 shaft and his SFT hosel in the A•3 setting (+1.5 more loft, +1.5 upright).

The 910 prototypes first appeared at the PGA Tour's AT&T National in late June.

The new Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf ball prototypes made their competitive debut Oct. 7 in the first round of the PGA Tour's McGladrey Classic at Sea Island (Ga.) Golf Club. A week later, Padraig Harrington put the new Pro V1x prototype into play for the first time at the Asian Tour's Iskandar Johor Open in Malaysia and then celebrated his first victory since the 2008 PGA Championship. Three more players have since earned victories using the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf ball prototypes, including Pro V1x loyalist Maria Hjorth at the LPGA Tour Championship earlier this month.

Titleist Brand Ambassador Rickie Fowler was named the PGA Tour's Rookie of the Year two weeks ago after a season that brought equal parts consistency and excitement.

In 28 official starts, Fowler totaled seven top-10s, including runner-up finishes at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and the Memorial Tournament, and had the highest rookie finishes on both the PGA Tour money list (22nd) and the FedEx Cup standings (32nd).

In September, he was named as a captain's pick for Corey Pavin's U.S. Ryder Cup team, where he authored one of the best comeback stories of the year, making birdie on four of his last six holes to come back from 4 down and halve his singles match with Eduardo Molinari – sinking a tricky, downhill 15-footer for birdie on the 18th hole.

Fowler also worked his way to 28th in the Official World Golf Rankings at season's end, therefore earning his first berth in the 2011 Masters. Same for Titleist Brand Ambassadors Robert Karlsson (17th), Kyung-Tae Kim (29th), Ross Fisher (33rd), Hiroyuki Fujita (48th) and Pro V1x loyalist Peter Hanson (40th).

• In total, 12 of the 24 players, six Americans and six Europeans, that participated in the Ryder Cup teed up Titleist golf balls, three times more than the nearest competitor: Steve Stricker (Pro V1), Rickie Fowler (Pro V1x), Zach Johnson (Pro V1x), Bubba Watson (Pro V1x), Jeff Overton (Pro V1x), and Hunter Mahan (Pro V1x) for the U.S.; Rory McIlroy (Pro V1x), Ross Fisher (Pro V1x), Lee Westwood (Pro V1x), Padraig Harrington (Pro V1x), Ian Poulter (Pro V1x) and Luke Donald (Pro V1x) for Europe.

• In a span of two weeks this summer, Pro V1 loyalist Bernhard Langer won two senior major championships, the first at the Senior British Open at Carnoustie (Scotland) and the second about 4,500 miles east at the U.S. Senior Open at Sahalee (Wash.) Country Club. Langer shot six rounds in the 60s during that span, his worst score a final-round 1-over 72 on the cranky links of Carnoustie.

A couple weeks later, Pro V1 loyalist Mark O'Meara won the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship for his first senior major victory.

• Titleist golf ball players won three of the four LPGA majors in 2010, with Pro V1x loyalist Yani Tseng and Pro V1 loyalist Cristie Kerr both setting records in the process.

Tseng won the first and last majors of the season, the Kraft Nabisco Championship and the Ricoh Women's British Open at Royal Birkdale, making her the youngest player to ever win three major championships. (Tseng also won the LPGA Championship as a rookie in 2008.)

It all added up to Tseng earning this year's Rolex Player of the Year award.

Pro V1 loyalist Cristie Kerr's season was highlighted by one of the most dominant performances in major championship history, one she described as a "dream performance."

Kerr won the LPGA Championship at Locust Hill (N.Y.) Country Club by 12 shots, setting a new championship record for margin of victory on her way to a second career major title. (She won the 2007 U.S. Women's Open at Pine Needles.) To break the record, Kerr rolled in her Pro V1 on the 72nd hole for her 23rd birdie of the week.

• Just as impressive had to be Pro V1x loyalist Louis Oosthuizen's breakthrough victory at The Open Championship at St. Andrews. Oosthuizen's walk over the Swilcan Bridge and up the 18th fairway on Sunday at the Old Course was as historic as it was carefree, as the 27-year-old from South Africa walked away with a seven-shot victory to become the Champion Golfer of the Year. His final-round 1-under 71 included a 50-foot eagle putt on No. 9 after driving the green.

• Several Titleist Brand Ambassadors and golf ball loyalists also earned multiple victories this season, including: Titleist Brand Ambassadors Bill Haas (Bob Hope Classic, Viking Classic), Robert Karlsson (Commercialbank Qatar Masters, Dubai World Championship), Geoff Ogilvy (SBS Championship, Australian Open), Adam Scott (Valero Texas Open, Barclays Singapore Open), Chris Kirk (Fort Smith Classic, Knoxville News Sentinel Open), Jean Hugo (Vodacom Business Origins of Golf Tour - Gardener Ross, Platinum Classic, Vodacom Business Origins of Golf Tour - Stellenbosch), Kyung Tae Kim (Japan Open Golf Championship, Mynavi ABC Championship) and Aaron Goldberg (The Players Cup, Clublink Jane Rogers Championship, Canadian Tour Championship); and Pro V1x loyalists Hunter Mahan (Phoenix Open, WGC-Bridgestone Invitational), Ian Poulter (WGC-Accenture Match Play, Hong Kong Open), Hunter Haas (Price Cutter Charity Championship, Albertsons Boise Open) and Liang Wenchong (Luxehills Chengdu Open and Thailand Open).

• One of the most impressive and exciting finishes of the season belonged to Titleist Brand Ambassador Rory McIlory, who shot a course-record 10-under 62 to win the star-studded Quail Hollow (N.C.) Championship by four shots in early May. McIlroy played his final five holes in 5 under and rolled in a 40-footer for birdie on No. 18, thrusting his fist in the air to celebrate his first victory on the PGA Tour. Pro V1x loyalists Bubba Watson (Travelers Championship) and Lee Westwood (FedEx St. Jude Classic) also recorded their maiden PGA Tour victories this season.

• In July, Pro V1 loyalist Paul Goydos birdied eight of his final nine holes and shot a 12-under 59 in the opening round of the John Deere Classic, rolling his Pro V1 #5 in for birdie from 7 feet, 3 inches on No. 18 to reach golf's magic number. Goydos, 46, missed one fairway and two greens in regulation, taking only 22 putts at the par-71 TPC Deere Run. He sank 12 birdies putts totaling over 180 feet.

A couple hours later, Titleist Brand Ambassador Steve Stricker tapped in for an 11-under 60. Stricker went on to win the event, edging Goydos by two shots.

Titleist Brand Ambassador Aaron Goldberg was named the Canadian Tour's Rolex Player of the Year after setting the all-time single season earnings record. Goldberg, 23, won three events including the season-ending Canadian Tour Championship. In his last two wins, Goldberg used a new Titleist 910D2 8.5 driver with a Fubuki Tour 73 shaft.

Pro V1x loyalist Liang Wenchong captured the inaugural OneAsia Order of Merit trophy, and Titleist Brand Ambassador Geoff Ogilvy topped the 2010 PGA Tour of Australasia Norman Von Nida Order of Merit.

• When time came for final exams, many players trusted Titleist golf balls in graduating to golf's biggest stages. Twenty-one of the 28 players that earned 2011 PGA Tour cards trusted Titleist golf balls for their success, including 16 Titleist Brand Ambassadors and golf ball loyalists. At LPGA Q-School, Pro V1 loyalist Aree Song led a group of 14 players that trusted Titleist golf balls to 2011 LPGA tour cards. At European Tour Q-School, 29 of the 34 graduates teed up a Titleist golf ball. And 16 of this season's 25 Nationwide Tour graduates trusted Titleist golf balls for their season-long and season-ending success.

Story of the year? That would belong to Titleist Brand Ambassador Bill Haas. It's a good one for the holidays, so check it out here.
