Q: What was the development process of the new Left Dash?
A: The journey to new Pro V1x Left Dash, from iterative prototyping to competition-ready product, offers a clear example of the Titleist commitment to providing golfers with improved performance with each new generation. New Pro V1x Left Dash began in earnest over four years ago, with R&D designing several promising prototypes over the first year.
In April of 2023, one of those prototypes had been identified as a likely finalist. When we brought it to the PGA TOUR to test with Left Dash players, we heard that the prototype felt great, had good speed and distance, but for some the spin was creeping up too high in the short irons. The development team decided to go back to the drawing board, reimagining new Left Dash’s performance north star. So we zeroed in on why they love Left Dash: the speed, the distance, the low spin resulting in a faster, longer Pro V1x Left Dash, with spin optimized for this player.
Q: You added speed and distance but kept everything else the same? How?
A: We started right at the middle; we reformulated the chemistry of the entire dual core to add more speed. This additional speed also created a little more overall spin. To bring that overall spin back to the prior gen's spin numbers, we designed the casing layer to be thicker. Just so happens the thicker casing layer also added more speed while controlling spin. In total, the new core and casing layer combination gave us two functions of added speed and a net-zero change in spin, exactly what players were looking for in new Dash. Then, to cover this new Dash engine, we put a 348 spherically tiled tetrahedron dimple pattern with slightly deeper dimples on the cover to make it fly a touch lower and in the optimal flight window, resulting again in more distance.
Q: How does new Left Dash compare to the previous Left Dash model?
A: If you’re a Dash player, you should be very excited to play the new Dash because we’ve taken everything that you love about it and just made it a little bit better. It’s still low spin off the tee, it’s faster, it’s longer, and it’s more penetrating into the wind. It’s everything a Dash player loves with a little bit more.
