The line on a golf ball can look like a simple putting routine. On the green, it can be the difference between feeling aimed and actually being aimed. Learn how it works with Titleist.

Golf ball alignment has become a trusted part of how many players prepare to putt, from golfers drawing a Sharpie line to tour players choosing a marking that fits their eye. With AIM technology, short for Alignment Integrated Marking, Titleist builds that visual tool directly into the golf ball through alignment options designed to help golfers aim with more precision.

At the Titleist Performance Center in Acushnet, Massachusetts, Luke Kerr-Dineen from Golf Digest explores what makes one alignment marking work better than another with Michael Fish, Senior Golf Ball Product Manager, and Mike Madson, Senior Vice President of Golf Ball R&D. The answer is not only about preference. It is about how a golfer sees the line, sets the ball down and commits to the putt.

Titleist has built AIM into its golf balls for nearly 20 years, starting with Pro V1 in 2007. Over time, feedback from the world’s best players helped shape different alignment options, from cleaner sidestamp designs with more white space to longer, more defined markings made for golfers who want a stronger visual guide.

To understand the difference, Titleist Golf Ball R&D created a way to measure alignment accuracy and compare how golfers aim with different markings. A few degrees offline may not sound like much, but on a putt, that small miss in aim can decide whether the ball starts on the intended line.

In Titleist testing, golfers using AIM markings were up to 35% more precise when aligning putts compared to a standard sidestamp. The right marking can tighten the picture, reduce uncertainty and make the target feel clearer before the stroke ever starts.

Golf ball alignment is personal, but it does not have to be guesswork. The best AIM design is the one that fits a golfer’s eye from behind the ball and over the putt, helping every degree matter a little more.
