Playing Golf in the Wind

From Tom Patri On January 20, 2022
Have you ever hit a shot during a round of golf that completely befuddled you? You double-checked your yardage and you picked the right club. You made a good swing and caught the ball cleanly, but... inexplicably, your shot falls way short of the target.

Well, as Titleist staff member Tom Patri shares in this video, the problem quite possibly might have been the wind. As Tom shows, what breeze you feel at ground level or what you can see up at the green can be substantially different than the conditions above you. Wind speed naturally increases as altitude increases, but the terrain can often mask this phenomenon. Your best bet? Always remember to look up. Treetops will give you a good idea of how hard the wind is blowing above you. Your full shots can climb to heights of 80-100+ feet, so you need to account for the wind at this elevation. When you build this into your pre-shot routine, you'll reduce those head-scratcher shots dramatically.
