Titleist Tips: Trail Side Training - Putting

In the final installation of his Trail Side Series, Titleist staff Member John Kostis asks you to imagine a hundred golf balls scattered on a putting green. He then asks how you would clear all those balls off the putting surface if he gave you a putter and asked you to only use your trail hand (your right hand for a right-handed golfer).

More than likely you'd let the putter swing back freely and your trail wrist would hinge softly. You'd let gravity help you on the swing back into the ball (like a kid swinging down on a swing at the playground) and you'd pop each ball off the green, finishing fairly abruptly compared to your long backswing.

This natural motion is very desirable and something that you can build into your putting game with a little practice. Spend some time rolling the ball with just your trail hand and you'll deliver more consistent energy to the golf ball, resulting in better distance control that will serve you well on the greens.
